This is disgusting right? Woman allegedly posts regular tik tok videos in a wedding dress pretending her mother / father with advanced dementia recognises her briefly

Apparently these videos are fake. I saw one on Instagram with her 'father' that seemed heartwarming but I recognised the woman and was sure I had seen her previously with her 'mother' on her wedding day so I delved into the comments and a few people had said they are fake and this is what she does for likes.

Aibu to think, if this is true, it is utterly disgusting? Aside from the likes, what exactly is she getting from these clips? My mind is blown and not in a good way.

I won't link to this dreadful woman but has anyone else seen these and fallen for them like I initially did?

Some people like this woman are so sad and pathetic when it comes to social media stuff.

IfICantHaveYou · 26/08/2023 14:48

That's TikTok for you though!

It's what it is

SoCentralRain · 26/08/2023 14:50

There are some very sick people out there and TikTok et al have given them a platform. It's very sad what people will do for likes.

Farmageddon · 26/08/2023 14:51

I'm always surprised that people believe anything on the internet. Call me cynical but social media just enables attention seekers to get the validation they crave.

SoCentralRain · 26/08/2023 14:53

It's the same as those animal 'rescues' on Twitter etc. I swear half of them throw the cat/dog in the river or whatever so they can then fake the rescue.

Devonshirelass · 26/08/2023 14:54

It’s disgusting. My mum has dementia, in the end stages now. It’s not like some sodding Hollywood movie, where you get recognized again at key life moments. You are not hidden away there in their memories. You are gone. Deleted. It’s cruel to give hope to others that they are still there.

allhellcantstopusnow · 26/08/2023 14:56

It's social media. Did you expect everything to be genuine? Block and move on.

YukoandHiro · 26/08/2023 14:56

People will do anything for money

Of course not. But the optimistic part of me kind of hoped lying about dementia for likes would be be a huge no no for people. Very sad what some aspects of society have become.

I am so sorry. I work with dementia everyday and it's such a cruel disease

Alas its really not that simple. Fb for example has a seemingly endless number of fake pages - with for example photos of peoples creative projects, photos stolen from elsewhere and posted without credit. With what is sometimes a genuine link to the origonal pattern. Or a dodgy link to something entirely different.
Loads of AI generated stuff too (eg photos of AI old ladies posing with supposedly crocheted tanks, animals etc)
I blocked lots of them and am now in fb jail on fb. So blocking stuff results in you getting restricted.

IfICantHaveYou · 26/08/2023 15:15

Op, the 'optimistic' side of you needs to stay off social media then!

It won't get any better with the new/next generation....

gwanmen · 26/08/2023 15:38

I hate the titokkers that give large sums of money to homeless people in exchange for answering a few questions. I saw a man given 500 dollars for saying his deepest regret was losing contact with his son. The interviewer pretended he was trying to help him and all the comments were saying what a great guy he is! No, he was doing it for likes.

Ihateslugs · 26/08/2023 15:55

And what about the current trend of smashing an egg on your child’s forehead?

Sadie87 · 26/08/2023 16:01

Amazing what some will do for the dopamine hit that comes with a like. I’m off all of it and much happier for it and less irritable because of things like this. Can’t get rid of Mumsnet though! 😂

LakeTiticaca · 26/08/2023 16:03

Yabu to be looking at tiktok. It's a cesspit just like most of the social media sites

LifeExperience · 26/08/2023 16:07

What! Something on the internet is FAKED? How can that be?!

Disgusting but not surprising.
