Spanish fiesta night aibu?

Spanishnights · 25/08/2023 22:10

This is the last night of our independently booked holiday in an unnamed Spanish Town. It is a private apartment complex with several blocks. Some are let to tourists on holiday (from the UK, Spain and other nationalities) and the majority are residents. It is marketed as a quiet, family resort. Next to a beautiful park and the beach 2 mins walk away. The complex has very strict rules about several things. Noise is up there. Everyone must be quiet after 10pm. A few days ago posters went up advertising this fiesta night which started at 9pm. Under normal circumstances we wouldn't care. But tonight our taxi picks us up at 4am for our flight home which was brought forward from the booked time and we had no choice over it. We are in bed after going out early to try and get more sleep (Spain is an hour ahead). There's no chance. There's about 100 people below our balcony all drinking, eating and loudly talking etc. Music playing and some are cheering and whooping. I hate being a party pooper but it's so unfair! Dogs in neighbouring rooms are also barking more too. Am I just being a miserable twat or do I have grounds to be pissed off as I didn't expect a rowdy night here?

What do you expect them to do?

tinytemper66 · 25/08/2023 22:13

Join in and sleep on the plane and when you get home tomorrow.

Eyesopenwideawake · 25/08/2023 22:13

Go and join the party and sleep on the plane - a fiesta is a joyous occasion!

TokyoSushi · 25/08/2023 22:14

You can be as annoyed as you like, but it's not going to change anything!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 25/08/2023 22:14

You’re being miserable.

Clymene · 25/08/2023 22:15

It's Friday night.

Fiesta! 🎉 🎊 🎉 🎊 🎉 🎊 🎉 🎊 🎉 🎊

Seashor · 25/08/2023 22:16

There’s absolutely nothing that you can do about it. The Spanish love a fiesta. They’ll still be going at 0400 so go and join them.

MrsPoliportsGoose · 25/08/2023 22:17

So... the fiesta should be cancelled because of your early flight?

The entitlement is strong OP.

FrenchandSaunders · 25/08/2023 22:17

I’d join them and sleep tom

WaltzingWaters · 25/08/2023 22:17

Go fiesta with them

DDivaStar · 25/08/2023 22:19

Yes its annoying but there's nothing you can do about a one off event thrown by residents. Its just bad luck.

NewIdeasToday · 25/08/2023 22:19

Spain is well known as a country where the nightlife is lively and goes late into the evening.

It’s Friday night and you’re on holiday. Relax, go down and enjoy the fiesta.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 25/08/2023 22:20

If it's Bilbao area they'll be still going strong tomorrow morning when you are on the plane.

You being humphy about a Spanish fiesta is kind of like some miserable touristy foreign person insisting Britain cancels the New Year's Eve celebrations.

10HailMarys · 25/08/2023 22:20

So you’ve gone to Spain and are now annoyed at a Spanish thing happening, basically. Tough shit. The world doesn’t revolve around your holiday flight.

Notmytotoro · 25/08/2023 22:22

Spanish people have dinner at 9pm.. I guess their fiesta will be strong until 4-5am.. it is holidays, what do you expect? Its not their problem you ate flying so early.. you can always sleep at the plane or back home in uk.

Elfandwellbeing · 25/08/2023 22:23

You can’t be f serious. You have an early flight so expect everyone to hush hush. How entitled is that! Sleep when you get home,

readbooksdrinktea · 25/08/2023 22:23

You're a guest in their city. They're just living their lives. This is such a miserable post.

NalafromtheLionKing · 25/08/2023 22:25

We booked a hotel in U.K. which (unbeknownst to me) had a little live music nightclub attached to it. I had a similar reaction to you but we just moved our DCs to the quieter room and decided that, if you can’t beat ‘em, join them. We had a good time.

I think enjoy and you will remember this fun ending to your holiday. Just have a proper lie in when you get back.

Cheeseandlobster · 25/08/2023 22:27

I think some of you are massively missing the point here. It sounds like the op booked the accommodation as it advertised itself as a quiet place to stay and the last place you would therefore expect a fiesta.

All you saying she is being miserable would probably struggle too with having absolutely no sleep then having a long day ahead travelling home

unicornflakegirl · 25/08/2023 22:27

Where the hell in Spain do people agree to be quiet after 10pm. I would probably not have finsihed my dinner and DC would be our with us.

You are being grouchy, you could have said no to the flight change and booked a later one, or stayed in an airport hotel.

louderthan · 25/08/2023 22:27

Nah OP. Lighten up. YABU. Enjoy it!

The accommodation may generally be quiet.
Doesn't mean local fiestas won't happen.

Bless 🙄

YouveGotAFastCar · 25/08/2023 22:30

This is a bit blunt; but true.

Nobody is going to describe their home as "noisy" if their neighbour has a couple of parties a year. A fiesta is a very Spanish thing.

It's a shame that your flight is now at a stupid time; but as you've said you wouldn't usually mind, you need to direct your ire at whoever moved your flight - not the Spanish people doing a Spanish thing.
