To be confused by the ending of ‘Vacant Possession’ by Hilary Mantel

SPOILERS

I have just finished this book and was frustrated by how inconclusive it was.

Did Muriel’s landlord kill both Sylvia and Isabel? Was the phone call to Colin at the new house meant to be from a ghost?

I don’t get any of it and feel really stupid.

You might get more responses to this as a book thread - with a spoiler warning though I think the likelihood of spoilers is indicated in the title. I've not yet read that book (have read many of her other books) but won't remember your question/post for long so I don't care.
