Can smell smoke in the bedroom

I have a headache and now I can smell smoke in the bedroom. I was paranoid so went all round the house and can’t smell it anywhere else but the bedroom. It’s not cigarette smell, more of a garden fire smell but I’ve no idea where from and now I’m paranoid something will start a fire

Was your window open earlier in the day?
Barbecues nervy?

Have you checked electrical sockets are switched off ?

Mmhmmn · 25/08/2023 00:52

Any lightbulbs gone?

Mmhmmn · 25/08/2023 00:53

Supposed to say barbecues maybe but yes smoke smell in bedroom would make you nervy 😂

Mmhmmn · 25/08/2023 00:54

Could it be olfactory hallucination associated with your headache I wonder

JustAnotherRandom · 25/08/2023 01:01

That would make me nervy too. Is it just the bedroom you can smell it in? Have you had covid recently - some smell phantom smells like smoke during/after.

Lleys · 25/08/2023 01:28

Could you be pregnant?
I randomly kept smelling burned toast in my first trimester

ShinyPikachu · 25/08/2023 01:40

Do you have any windows open or even window vents? Any log burners or fire pits in the area can cause a smoky smell inside even if you can't see where they are.

I did have this a lot in an old house and I never found out why. Someone had died there in a house fire many years before but there could have been a reasonable explanation I couldn't work out. It was definitely the house and not me as I didn't have it at all after I moved.

I suffer with headaches and migraines and always smell burning before, during & after. It’s really common apparently. The burning smell in particular but there are many more phantom smells. Pp is right in saying it’s olfactory hallucination.

The smell is so strong to me that I may as well have a piece of burnt toast stuck to my face.

I could smell burning in my bedroom when I went to bed. I woke up later and it was stronger.
I got up and searched the house and outbuildings (I live on a farm) to no avail. My worry was it was in the roof space.

I ended up calling out the fire brigade, it was during the hot summer when there were fires on the moors.

Ends up, it was my neighbour burning his field (not allowed 🙄), which is over a hill and I couldn't see it.
I was very apologetic to the firemen, felt a right prat.

Once or twice I've had these moments I could smell smoke, partner reassured me there was no smoke smell so I'm thinking it was something to do with my nose? Have seasonal allergies and bunged up most the time.

BusterGonad · 25/08/2023 02:46

Is it only when lying down?

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 25/08/2023 02:52

It could be a migraine aura, or somebody not to far away had a campfire/firepit.
If you have working smoke alarms on each level of your home you should be safe to sleep.
Hope your headache eases up.

Could it be covid? Or are you pregnant? Both of these made me smell things randomly
