To think it's not acceptable to change rotas at such short notice

I work different shifts, and I see my rota on my phone on a live system.
Also have a couple of different jobs, I worked a night shift in my other role last night and I was due in later this afternoon, so enough time to sleep.
I woke up during my nap and looked at my rota. I was rescheduled to start an hour earlier than initially, with about 3 hours' notice.
I hadn't been asked if I could start an hour earlier, this was just added onto the rota, so I've lost an hour of sleep.
Aibu to think this is not acceptable? If they give me notice or at least ask me then ok, but they didn't. It's a good job I checked my rota again.
What if I'd had an appointment or something? I hate how workplaces think they own you and you can just drop everything.
Should I contact them to ask they don't do this in future? I haven't been there long and don't want to rock the boat though.

Is there any policy around notifying you about shifts/changes?

Chickentikka567 · 22/08/2023 14:39

Yeah, it says they will endeavour to give you notice and inform you! It's ridiculous. I know people will say 'it's only an hour' but it's the principle.

I would have thought, for their own sake, it would be way less stressful to pick up the phone and call you to inform you about shift changes rather than relying on you to check your live rota every day. Especially when you have another job.

Ultimately if you don't know the shift has changed, it'll be the business that suffers so it seems very weird. Do you know when the shift was changed?

Unacceptable! I have similar with working a few different jobs and I get annoyed when j get schedules for a Sunday on a Thursday. A couple of hours notice would really piss me off

You're legally entitled to 11 hours uninterrupted rest between shifts.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 22/08/2023 14:48

Can't you pretend you haven't seen the new rota?

They haven't asked you, so what if you hadn't checked?

You're legally entitled to 11 hours uninterrupted rest between shifts.

I think OP worked in a different job last night, so the 11 hour rule wouldn't apply between two employers.

Do they know you have another job?

Does your contract let you have another job?

Ladyoftheknight · 22/08/2023 15:16

Do they know you have another job/jobs? If not, it might be worth requesting they take as much care as possible to make sure you're given notice. However, it's not their responsibility to make sure you are available to work, whether you have another job or not. Any job with a changing rota is up to you to keep up with. I hope they have some humanity and can be more careful though.

Hi, it's a 0 hours contract so I have another job alongside. They do permit other jobs, I am planning to leave soon I think.
