To wonder if 'going down the local on a Friday and Saturday night' is still a thing?

I'm not so much talking about in cities here as the pubs will always be full somewhere like London.

I'm more talking about small towns and rural villages. Do people still go down the pub on a Friday/ Saturday night?

I ask because so many of pubs in and around my village are closing and whenever we go into our village pub on a Friday or Saturday night now it's pretty dead- years ago there was a real 'finish the working week and head out for a pint/ glass of wine' attitude.

Obviously the cost of living crisis wont have helped, but I've noticed a gradual decline tbh I'd say over the last 8-9 years, way before Covid or COL.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is going down the pub now a thing of the past?

Nope, not a thing of the past. Might be less common than it once was but certainly still a thing.

Where I live it certainly is. I was walking home fairly late on Saturday for the first time in ages and the 2 pubs I need to walk past were heaving. I'm in a medium sized town, west of Scotland. This places could be described as old man's pubs but from what I could see, there was all sorts of ages.

I'm in a small town, my local is now a coop. Before this house it was a village, that one is now 3 flats. Next nearest "pub" is actually a restaurant, not somewhere that people go to drink really, then it's a whethersooons and I just wouldn't want to go there, it's vile. So no. I'm a member of camra but my favourite pub is in the Nearest city.

Very much still a thing here.

Not often. The last time we went to the pub it cost me £9.50 for a soft drink and a bottle of cider.

It is where I live. I go quite often. Most local pubs round here are very kid friendly with bouncy castles or parks so I walk down with the kids on an afternoon. If I'm going out with friends, we often meet in the local and get a taxi into 'town' after a few in there.
