I'm posting for traffic.

Please be gentle.

About 3-4 weeks ago, I developed a very painful pile that was fully external. I contacted my GP and was given scheiroproct (or whatever it's called). Did all the usual self help and used as prescribed.

3 weeks later it's no longer sore, occasionally itchy and has shrunk a bit but is still the size of a kidney bean or bigger.

I am very thankful that I'm not in pain and that it's not really stopping me doing anything. But. I am really devastated that it hasn't gone and I'm presuming it won't now at this stage. It's no longer inflamed. Just seems to be at home there.

It makes hygiene and wiping hard, but I get around it in a way, although can be very hard to get clean. However, I really feel far too self conscious for sex. Two traumatic births mean I barely had a perineum left!! And the pile is large and the vagina side of the anus. I am so sad as cannot bear for my husband to touch me whilst it's so big and present. What do I do?? I've read horror stories on here about surgery and actually I may not even get it on the NHS. If it's a purely external pile, which I believe it is, then non surgical procedures like exroid wont work either.

Im calling the GP next week (on holiday at the moment 😞😞😞) but does anyone have any advice or personal experience? Or just some comradery? Feeling seriously down about it!

PS - not overly sure I need anymore horror stories!!

If it's previously been a thrombosed pile, which is now a perianal tag, you can get them removed by a private dermatologist.

I have one, had it for years. Hate it but can't justify the £££s it costs for removal. Sympathies.

Can you treat them like warts, and cautorise them ? Never had one so just a supposition

I have a large “ex” exterior pile due to the birth of dc2.

The way I look at it is this: I have squeezed not one but TWO of DH’s progeny out of my foof. I was in terrible pain with piles, then stretched and torn by childbirth twice. He watched both times. He knows what went down.

I’m not embarrassed of what that did to my body. He is bloody lucky he didn’t have to put his body through absolute hell to have the privilege of having a baby.

In terms of keeping things nice and clean I strongly recommend Tucks wipes.

Have confidence, have pride, have sex.

@ThreeLittleDots no, it's not a tag, the pile is still very much there sadly,

Thank you @WomanAtWork, it's certainly something to think about. It's still so big though and I do worry about it becoming inflamed again. That was very painful. I was freezing latex gloves full of water and then snapping off the fingers 😂
