To be sick of British exceptionalism?

People going on holiday and deciding from a couple of polished up tourist spots that the UK is the BEST at being terrible in Europe.

Get a grip.

If you don't like Brexit start pushing for single market membership. Proper campaigning not whining on the Guardian letters page.

Eh? What has British tourists behaviour abroad got to do with Brexit? Or The Guardian letters page?

Hillcrest2022 · 20/08/2023 10:11

What does this mean 'the UK is the BEST at being terrible in Europe'.

Must mean another country thinks they have a shot at the title ?

Maybe we should ask Harry Hill how to sort it out ?

😕

Not goady at all, @ForestGoblin

Rotterdam · 20/08/2023 10:47

You start these goady threads regularly at @ForestGoblin

There are many comparable European places that were superior to the UK even before Brexit, due to better governance and more public spending.

Optionyougot · 20/08/2023 10:49

Can you provide more context? An example perhaps?

Brexile · 20/08/2023 10:51

Eh? The UK can't just stroll back into the Single Market when it wants to. That's not how it works. Deal with the reality of Brexit, or emigrate (if you can).

Thefamilywaster · 20/08/2023 10:51

Is this one of those ChatGPT failure posts?

Sunsnet · 20/08/2023 12:44

Are you saying that you don't like people complaining that we're worse than other countries when all they have seen of those countries is a very carefully presented tourist resort that is not representative of the country as a whole? And if people want real change they should start a proper campaign or become an MP and enact real change rather than just writing to newspapers?

Maybe you should follow your own advice and start a proper campaign to educate people on these things rather than just complaining on mumsnet...

BackAgainstWall · 15/10/2023 10:44

Come on we’re embarrassingly shit when we’re abroad.

As always it’s a small minority that let this country down, and bring shame on us.

LeefsPrings · 15/10/2023 11:02

I don't read the Grauniad so things like this don't bother me.

Palsywalsy · 24/09/2024 17:54

I don’t think we are ashamed of our colonial past, collectively, which understandably causes issues. For example people are still happy to belt this out with pride

"Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
"Britons never will be slaves
