To be utterly gutted about period coming late and when I’m on holiday aaargh

I’m guessing it’s just hormones but my period is horrible- I have the copper coil and it’s long heavy and painful. Stops then restarts, lasts around 10 days. Usually every 28 days like clockwork and was due last Friday so finishing off by the time I go on holiday this Saturday. Except this one month of all months it’s late. And now it’s going to come basically my whole 10 day holiday and I feel like crying. I find tampons hard, usually use moon cups but they leak since my second child (have sized up and tried different brands!) so I wear a pad as well. I feel bloated and self conscious and constantly worry about leaks let along when in swimwear and white linen. I know it’s not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things but I just feel gutted. Any tips for managing period on holiday? Tampons for people who struggling with them? It’s too late for norethisterone to delay it as you’re meant to take that 3 days before it’s due which was fking ages ago

When do you fly? Your GP or Superdrug will be able to prescribe medication called norethisterone to delay your period. Your GP will advise you when to take norethisterone and for how long. You'll usually be prescribed 3 norethisterone tablets a day, starting 3 to 4 days before you expect your period to begin.

Sorry copied and pasted that! Meant to say, it works really quickly for me, start it so you can enjoy the latter half of your holiday!

  1. ditch the white linen, it’s a shame but not worth the stress.
  2. tampax pearl are great for those who struggle with tampons.
  3. get yourself to M&S for period pants, mid range in terms of price but they work well and can be tumble dried. Use on their own on an ‘am I on?’ Or light day, with a tampax pearl on an Armageddon day.

What tampons have you tried and what is it about them that you find difficult? Applicator? Non-applicator?

You can put a bit of KY Jelly on them if you find them difficult to get in.

The norethisterone might shorten or stop your period so might be worth trying them anyway. I like tampax pearl tampons as they are easier to insert and don't grow in length as well as width

Thanks all for your suggestions! I will try norethisterone but I fly Saturday and my GP is hopeless I can’t imagine I will be able to get it sorted before then. Will try tampax pearl thank you. And period pads a good idea. I’ve been leaving it and leaving it but now I worry I’ve left it too late to sort!

I got my norethisterone from an online pharmacy. Think Boots does an online consultation for it too

If you sort the prescription tomorrow morning, you will be fine.

Period swimwear might help. DD uses this as finds tampons hard to use. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

I would just order norethisterone this evening from online pharmacy and start taking as soon as it arrives, you should have it by Friday.

I feel your pain: my period was 6 weeks late and starting on the fecking plane to Mexico.

Barely in the air. Luckily I had some panty liners and tampons just in case but I was raging.

Damn perimenopause
