AIBU to think there must be a hair product or there somewhere to suit wavy fine hair!?

I have fine bobbed hair which will dry straight ok but my hair has become more wavy as I've got older. When I dry it straight I always feel mumsy as it curls under and isn't poker straight at the ends.

I would love to somehow tap into the natural style my hair dries in but whenever I do it wavy or leave it to dry I end up looking like Worzel Gummidge (for you younger chics, he was a scarecrow in an 80s programme)

I have used John Freida Frizz ease: doesn't work and a beach waves salt spray (ends up looking crispy). Has anyone out there with fine and wavy hair found a lovely product that makes their hair look soft, shiny and wavy please?

Thank you!

Mine is fine and wavy and I use a mousse and/or gel then diffuse it until it's crunchy, and scrunch until soft

I got the Garnier honey shampoo and conditioner samples through Mumsnet, that is really good. There's a shampoo in Superdrug, can't remember the name, but it's specifically for curly hair, that's quite good.

I have found my people. I'm trying to enhance the waves/curl instead of pretending I have straight hair. I'm here for all the suggestions because I see so many people with lovely definition but with hair that is just so stiff. I want it to look like hair still.

I also have a fine wavy bob. I use mousse and leave to air dry, occasionally styling with my hands. I have shockwaves in a red can at the moment, but I find this a bit heavy and waxy for my hair. I previously had L'Oréal Elnett in the gold cab which is much lighter.

I have fine hair but loads of it, it’s highlighted blonde (naturally mousey) and dries with a layer of straight frizz over the top (of that makes sense) with curly bits underneath 🤯 to make it worse I’m 4 months postpartum so loads has fallen out and I now have a Steve McDonald hairline 😭

This stuff is the shit.

I have ringlets and use it religiously, but a friend has short, fine and wavy hair. I gave her a pot to try and see, apparently it's brilliant for her too.

I've not used it myself but I like the look of merwave products

MrsToothyBitch · 15/08/2023 19:19

I've seen good stuff about Merwave

Bonfire23 · 15/08/2023 19:22

This was curlsmith foam and treluxe gel

Ugh I hate that pink curl creme. Makes my hair feel dirty.

@passwordnotsecure my hair is curly rather than wavy, but it's very fine and takes next to nothing for the curls to stretch out which is annoying.

My hair is dryer than dry when curly, I use Boucleme Curling Cream then Aveda Confixor gel. Both are light so don't weigh my hair down.

If your hair feels crunchy, that's the gel cast that forms when you dry it. You just need to scrunch it out and your hair will be lovely underneath.

I have the same hair, really fine and lots of it and a very loose curl which is just frizz if I don't do something with it.

I read up on the curly girl method and do a version of that.

You need umberto Giannini curl jelly (big pink tube) and the boots curl cream above.

Wash and condition hair.
Squeeze out as much water as poss with your hands, no towel!
Comb through with a wide tooth comb
Scrunch a ton of the jelly through your hair, a proper palm full
Scrunch out the worst of the wetness with a micro fibre towel or old tshirt or other smooth cloth
Leave to air dry for preference or dry with a diffuser on cold
Once dry it will be crispy. Spread a little of the cream in your hands and scrunch away the crunch.

Works incredibly well. Lasts a few days if you don't touch it.

Aveda has some great curl products.

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/08/2023 19:46

My hair and scalp can't cope with that much product @SlowlyLosing.

I'm going to find some travel sized products and see what works well. I need to get my hairdresser on board because he's convinced I have straight hair despite it never being straight when I turn up.

Cantu shampoo and conditioner, this one.

https://www.superdrug.com/hair/shampoo/everyday-shampoo/cantu-sulfate-free-cleansing-cream-shampoo-400ml/p/729406

I brush my hair out while it's wet using a paddle brush then squeeze out the water so it's not dripping everywhere and leave it to air dry. It pulls up into waves and loose curls. Once it's dry (or after I wake up on a morning), I spritz it with a spray bottle of water until it's damp and then I work a little bit of cantu leave-in conditioner through it.

Bonfire23 thanks. Sounds amazingly complicated and expensive though 😆

Honestly it's not
You can do it with products from boots
I basically wash and condition, squeeze water out then take through mousse/gel and dry it
That gets me a good 3 days

JVN air dry cream has helped with my fine, very lightly wavy bob. I put a small blob through towel dried hair, definition and shine with no weight, winner!

I have very fine, wavy/curly hair and lots of it. I’m now using the Only Curls range which I’ve fallen in love with. I love their hydrating curl crème, mousse and styling gel. Really helps define my messy curls. The website is full of really good advice for waves and curls. It’s a bit pricey but I think it’s worth it. https://onlycurls.com/

I use a root booster before drying and then I put a little bit of a slightly fibrous putty (for messy styles) to add a little definition, hold and weight. My hair is baby fine and fly away.

eg Lee Stafford Messed Up Putty

HaveSomeIntrospect · 15/08/2023 20:15

i have never heard of gel cast

rubyslippers · 15/08/2023 20:17

Inkey list chia seed crème on wet hair
scrunched and then some gel on top of rhis
i leave to air dry
i fine, curly hair and this works for me

Mufflette · 15/08/2023 20:18

I use Bumble & Bumble BB don't blow it (fine hair version) and air dry. I think they have a new seaweed one too. The JVN air dry stuff is nice (smells gorgeous) but I find it a little heavier.

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2023 20:28

I have curly fine hair. Messed about with loads of shampoos. Aveeno almond is best for me . Hard to get in store now. Brown bottle. I buy from Amazon.

Diffuser to dry with some blow dry spray. Not mousse. Salon uses mousse but I never do .
