Not hearing I wasn't successful for internal job

I applied for an internal job and had the interview last week. Said they would decide by Friday.

I haven't heard I wasn't successful.

Who do you usually hear you aren't successful - HR or hiring manager?

AIBU to think it's poor form?

Ps was only two people wanted the job

They said they'd decide by Friday, not that they'd let you know by Friday. It's only been one working day, so don't lose hope!
There could be a multitude of reasons why they've never gotten back to you.

It might be taking them longer to decide? I know they should have updated you but sometimes I have been a position where there's a big crisis or something and there just hadn't been time to get back to people about the delay.

I'd give it a few days then email politely and ask if there is any update

Urgh, this happened to me. The successful candidate started the role within a week of interview (before I had been told I hadn't got it) and it was bloody awful. I had left it one week to chase as had been told they would decided that same day and HR would let me know. Didn't want to chase interview panel directly (who I worked with daily) as I knew they weren't officially supposed to tell me, and they all thought I'd been told already. It was awful, I felt such an idiot when the new person turned up. I hope you hear soon. I finally got an email from HR a month later!
