To ask for your best metal foot file ?

Hello
The underside of my heels are looking gross with a thick layer of skin peeling off from the edges and an emery board type file isn't cutting it. The skin is thick but not hard enough to file off if that makes sense - it's pretty soft

Don't have time to do a footner as it'll be peeling by the time I go on holiday.

Lost my ped egg but as far as I can remember it was never super effective.
Anyone got any super hard cheese grater file type recommendations ? And directions for use (soak feet first etc)

Thanks !

Best cheap buy would be Soap and Glory foot file - it does a really my good job. Use it dry £7.50

Bit more spenny but totally worth it - Margaret Dabbs foot file. Also use dry. £30.

Microplane foot file on dry skin (weekly)
Then wash feet, exfoliating scrub (exfoliate x 2 week)
Urea foot cream and socks before bed (nightly)

That's my routine and the podiatrist couldn't find any hard skin to remove she looked disappointed Grin

Microplane. Go carefully!

If you go overboard with any kind of foot file you will actually make the problem worse. Little and often in the key and it will take a while to get on top of really thick dry skin so I don't think you will have time before your holiday. Some beauty therapists city a heavy duty chemical peel for feet but you will need to make sure you moisturise your feet likes it's your religion afterwards.

I use a metal file with replaceable emery pads, it's dual sided for fine and coarse filling. I use it gently about twice a week on dry feet.

Flexitol heel balm applied after a bath/shower with socks on top also really helps, its 25% urea which makes the difference.

If you start with a gentle and sustained routine now you will have baby soft feet for next year.

Champneys £10 from Boots, amazing quality / value.

Thanks very much everyone - looking into these now.
My feet are usually pretty good but my heels have gone crazy this year so I wasn't prepared !

Ah a microplane. Mine’s 10 years in and still fantastic.

Blossomtoes · 12/08/2023 14:13

Margaret Dabbs is brilliant and you can buy replacement blades so it lasts for ever - or at least until you lose it!

Bearpawk · 12/08/2023 14:27

Blossomtoes do you have a link to the Margaret Dabbs one please, a few are coming up on google x

It's on Amazon too. And cheaper 👍

Newt13 · 12/08/2023 14:52

I’d recommend a glass foot file. Extremely effective and I’ve never overdone it.

Bearpawk · 12/08/2023 15:10

@QueenBitch666 can you link to the Margaret Dabbs one on Amazon ? A few are coming up and I don't know which one pp was talking about.

Microplane, no contest.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/08/2023 15:27

In my many years experience filing actually increases the hard skin. The movement in both directions seems to build the skin.
With the Microplane one it is removed in one direction only and is far more effective. It is VERY sharp and needs to be used carefully but is worth it.

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 15:45

I use a pumice stone in the shower every couple of days and I have lovely smooth feet

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 15:46

When my heels etc get dry I use CCS foot cream which is brilliant

HappiDaze · 12/08/2023 15:47

I only apply it at night never in the day and wear cotton ankle socks if I need to walk around

Go on QVC and it's the same foot file, just different sets. It's worth paying £6 more for two foot creams, in the set. You can try and return if it does nothing on your feet.

This one…it’s amazing and takes no time at all. Just be careful when you first get it as it’s sharp and I went a bit mad with mine.

Another vote for this one - it's flipping amazing. I also use CCS (think that's it. It's three letters, anyway. Blue and white tube) foot cream, also from Amazon. My feet are lovely and smooth 🙂

JulesJules · 12/08/2023 15:59

I like the Soap and Glory footfile mentioned by a pp. I bought mine as it was mentioned in a similar thread years ago. Use every morning in the shower, and Flexitol or CCS cream at night.
