DoubleTree Hilton Southampton or Holiday Inn Southampton

Hi everyone

Posting for traffic.

We are in Southampton for 2 nights from 7th December.

It's me, DH and DD, she'll be 7 months and we are going to the Light Up event at Harold Hillier Gardens.

We only have a budget of £200 for the 2 nights for the hotel so it's one of these two, wondering if anyone had stayed in either/both? And how far from the event it is? We only care about clean & comfy it is and decent breakfast.

The Hilton is Chilworth and Holiday Inn is Eastleigh.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve stayed in the Doubletree Hilton in Southampton many times and it’s clean and comfortable. Food is a bit pedestrian and they can be a bit disorganised at restocking the breakfast buffet. They have nice grounds and a small gym in the basement.

I’ve never stayed in the Holiday Inn but the other one we’ve stayed in at probably a similar price point is Jury’s. That might also be worth looking at?

Chilworth is a bit nicer but both are close to busy roads and are fine.

Equal distance to Hilliers - travel is not an issue.

consider Dukes head or Cromwell arms, both local pubs with rooms and have more charm.

Also consider the Premier Inn in Nursling. Might be cheaper that those you have mentioned. Two family friendly pubs very close. One does breakfast. Co op walking distance and a huge sainsbury very close by.

Staying in Romsey might be nicer, then you can have a wander around, it's a lovely market town and more local for Hilliers.

It depends what you want to do. Doubletree Hilton is right by the motorway and you can't really walk anywhere from it. I haven't been there in a long time but the pool area is very comparable in size to the holiday Inn.

The holiday Inn Eastleigh is right on Fleming park so space to walk around and a play park. You have a few big shops and Costa just across the road. Oh and they have just spent the last year upgrading all the rooms so they should be relatively new.

Both are about the same distance away from Hillier's. I'd personally choose the holiday Inn as I like the option to get out locally without a car.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express M27 last year to visit Paultons Park and it was reasonable with a good breakfast.

Village hotel Southampton would be another option. Good blast and pool, 10/15 mins from Hilliers

Just avoid the Premier Inn in the centre of Southampton. I've nothing against the chain of "purple hotels" as my children call them but that one is next to the entrance to a railway tunnel and they have to blow their horn just before entering the tunnel. They used to be able to stop in the wee small hours (when the hotel was first built) but H&S says they have to do it at all hours now.
