Parked in the Waitrose car park in Egham a few weeks ago (which we do regularly).
Used a Waitrose voucher for free parking for under two hours (again as usual).
Once you check out, the machine frequently errors and shows that a different registration has been paid for - but you cannot get a receipt showing payment from the machine
I have now had a penalty notice. We sent them a photo of the voucher used on the day (and the Waitrose receipt) and just had an email back showing our appeal has not been upheld and the case is closed.
So we have a £60 fine. However if we take the appeal further (to an external arbitrator) the fine goes up to £100 if the next appeal isn't held up. I cannot provide any other evidence of paying because 'the system' in the carpark doesn't provide any proof in terms of a receipt.
Oh and nobody answers the phone number that is on the machine in the event of problems either.
So let's have a shout out to Runnymede Borough Council who employ these crooks.
I feel I have no choice but to pay the £60. But I will no longer shop in, or visit Egham because I can't afford the risk of another incorrect parking notice that is impossible to defend.
