To think that Parkfair and Runnymede district council in Egham are thieving bastards?

Parked in the Waitrose car park in Egham a few weeks ago (which we do regularly).
Used a Waitrose voucher for free parking for under two hours (again as usual).
Once you check out, the machine frequently errors and shows that a different registration has been paid for - but you cannot get a receipt showing payment from the machine
I have now had a penalty notice. We sent them a photo of the voucher used on the day (and the Waitrose receipt) and just had an email back showing our appeal has not been upheld and the case is closed.
So we have a £60 fine. However if we take the appeal further (to an external arbitrator) the fine goes up to £100 if the next appeal isn't held up. I cannot provide any other evidence of paying because 'the system' in the carpark doesn't provide any proof in terms of a receipt.
Oh and nobody answers the phone number that is on the machine in the event of problems either.
So let's have a shout out to Runnymede Borough Council who employ these crooks.
I feel I have no choice but to pay the £60. But I will no longer shop in, or visit Egham because I can't afford the risk of another incorrect parking notice that is impossible to defend.

Sorry - to be precise it's Runnymede Borough Council.

Try tweeting (x-ing?) them. They appear to have a very organized twitter page.

Thanks, I'll give that a go - not a user of twitter so had missed that.

I am disabled,and a OAP,I parked in that place for years but have now been fined 100 pound for parking for 35 minutes never again I couldn’t understand why it was so easy to park there,now I do never again

BillSkye · 13/11/2023 12:02

Why,Why do I have to pay £100 pound to park in disabled slot for 35 minutes,talk about taking your eyes out,I’ve tried to find a number for them to no avail,rang RBC but they just referred me to Parkfair not a good name as they are not

IWFH · 13/11/2023 12:24

@BillSkye I sympathise.
We ended up paying the fine to the cheating bastards, because their response was 'computer says "no"', and without any traceability provided by the machines in Egham there is no way to defend it. As a result we don't go to Egham any more. Staines now gets our custom instead, as the parking is traceable (and we've never had a problem there anyway).
