To take my 7yo abroad at Christmas

ForthethingsIdo · 08/08/2023 21:11

I want to take my 7yo on holiday somewhere hot over Christmas (to be away on 25th) but I’m worried I’m ruining the magic of Christmas.

I have fond memories of being excited Xmas eve then going downstairs the next morning to open my presents from Santa.

I plan to take their presents in a suitcase and lay them out in the hotel room instead.

Am I being selfish and ruining the few years of Father Christmas magic and belief?

Thanks

I believe you can take the magic with you wherever you are, and it’s who you’re with that makes it special. You could incorporate traditions from the new place you’re visiting? Look at how the might celebrate or thing of new traditions to start. My friend always does a Christmas swim now even in the UK after a few tropical Christmas Day swims! From my own experience of having a few Christmas’ abroad in my childhood they stick out for being different (I can’t honestly remember every single detail of every childhood Christmas!) and still felt so magical because we still brought some of our traditions from home too - we just experienced them in a new place together.

We spent a lot of Christmas abroad- sometimes visiting family and sometimes simply travelling. Father Christmas has his ways to arrive wherever you are

Do it!! You can do the traditional Uk Xmas stuff before you leave x

Just go after Christmas?

I’m from a Christmas summer-time country originally and like both a cold and hot Christmas - both have equal Christmas magic and sparkle if you adjust your mindset. Go and have a fantastic time!

Get a flight with Finnair transiting in Helsinki, you’ll see tons of snow, a christmas vibe even at airport/airport hotel for the night then on to the real destination in the sun!

Thank you everyone. I’ll get it booked!

I LOVED Christmas on holiday as a kid.

id so it now but my teenager son is adamant he won't.

I don't get this "magic" thing about Christmas. People seem to tie themselves in knots about it. DC1 figured out Father Christmas wasn't real when he was 6 and has somehow managed to have a perfectly nice Christmas since.

Your son will get presents he wants and a nice holiday, probably get to go swimming in the sun on Christmas day? Sounds great, can't understand the issue.
