To not be able to work the lock in holiday cottage

Help, I’m on holiday and the keys were in the front door lock on arrival. I can lock and unlock the door but can’t get the key out of the lock.

The lock is an abloy lock. I’m not having success with Google or the manual.

Has anyone got an abloy lock and knows what the knack is to get the key out?

Thanks.

Lift the door handle, lock the door, move it back to the middle and pull the key out?

Picture of the door would help.

Bellybootcut · 06/08/2023 19:53

Do you need to lift the handle?

NotTooOldPaul · 06/08/2023 19:53

Can you phone the owner, or agent, and ask?

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 06/08/2023 19:55

You will need to yank the handle up after you have turned the key to lock it, you will hear it click like a locking sound and the you should be able to remove the key

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 06/08/2023 19:56

Lift the handle up and take the key out while the handle is up.

Movinghouseatlast · 06/08/2023 19:57

Pull the handle upwards. If there are two handles ( ie patio doors) you need to pull both upwards.

Are you sure they aren't properly stuck? Seems odd they were already in the lock when you arrived?

bringmelaughter · 06/08/2023 20:01

Thanks so far.

Here’s a picture. Have let owners know.

Have tried lifting handle and turning key back to middle.

Its so frustrating.

Nope. It’s the sort of place where the owners are here when you arrive, keys are in door but I didn’t think I’d need to ask how to take them out. The back door is the same so there’s definitely some knack I haven’t got.
Thanks for answering though.

When you pull on the key, does the barrel but move? If it does you need to hold it in place while easing the key out.

VisionsOfSplendour · 06/08/2023 20:11

In sure you've tried this but do you need to run it through 180 degrees to get it out?

bringmelaughter · 06/08/2023 20:18

Lifting the handle then moving key to 9 o’clock makes it click and lock. Moving the Kay to 3 o clock unlocks. It feels like I should move the key to 12 o’clock to get the key out but that doesn’t work even with handle lifted.

Barrel doesn’t move. They are brand new locks. We’re only 2nd it 3rd people to stay here.

This is a bit hard to explain but might be worth a go. On mine, if I fully turn the key it won't come out, but if you turn it back a half turn or so the key then comes out.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 06/08/2023 20:46

What happens when you turn the key to the six position? So upside down with the handle raised?

It won’t go that far, it stops at 3 and 9 o’clock.

Thanks though.

I’m finding this hard to picture. Do you mean so it’s in between the quarter turns?
Thanks

Working for an estate agent I have encountered many dodgy keys and locks. Most keys pull out with the key in the vertical position (12/6 on clock) however a few have had me in a panic as the have to be horizontal (9/3)

RedDawg · 06/08/2023 20:55

Might be worth googling YouTube videos on how to remove key from (brand here) lock

Floralnomad · 06/08/2023 21:03

Turn it in the wrong direction until it stops and then pull it out
