I work as an agency staff member around different nursing and residential homes. It suits me well, it can be hard but I wouldn't go back to being permanent.
Anyway, something that frustrates me (and some others ( is being constantly referred to as 'the agency' or 'an agency'.
I'm usually alone or a max of 2 agency staff on a shift, it really wouldn't kill them to use our names.
The other day I was on with another agency staff member in a new home. One of the permanent staff said loudly 'Where are the agencies?" Another worker replied "One of them is here, there's another one of them in the kitchen."
Or, it's stuff like, "I've sent the agency to room 23".
I get they meet a lot of new staff but it's really not hard to learn one name, or otherwise, just ask.
When she referred to me as the agency, I walked over and said "Do you mean me?"
It's like us referring to them as 'a/the permanents".
It just reduces you to a number.
Unfortunately because a small number of agency staff are very poor, many permanent staff are hostile to all agency staff until they see you can do the work, however some are hostile regardless. There's nothing I can do about that though sadly.
