To not visit family now flights have gone up?

My dad’s brother lived abroad (in Europe). It’s a city that isn’t served by many airlines. He kept saying I need to come and visit for a weekend. As did his wife. I used to visit years ago before I lived in the US for a while. Now I’m back in the UK.

An airline had a sale on and I saw flights for £60 return. So I sent my uncle a message asking when would be convenient. I said there was a sale on so flights were cheap at the moment for any weekend in November or in February. I got no response until a week later. Now flights are £200 each. AIBU not to go now that flights are expensive? I’d love to visit but £140 difference is a lot of money to me.

Tell him it’s too expensive, & when there’s another sale you’ll be able to go then. I have this with family in NZ. They keep saying they want me to come, it’s almost like they’re paying for my flights. Not that I’d expect them to, but it’s thrice as much as it used to be. I’m just not prepared to pay that much.
