Ouseburn for cool bars and cafes and High Bridge in the town centre for vintage

TheCatterall · 03/08/2023 20:23

Check out Biscuit Factory for starters. And I only really know real ale pubs so can’t help much. Lots of amassing independent coffee shops etc if you google independent coffee shop Newcastle. Guardian have done an article a few years ago on places to visit - was still quite good but I’d search for it on google not guardian app!

When time do you have to leave? Do you need to eat anywhere? What ages are you?

There's a high chance of hammering down rain and it's about 15 degrees up here so don't plan anything outdoors, bring a good brolly and a raincoat!

Granddayout · 03/08/2023 20:31

Thanks ! Real ale be ace!

Dog and parrot is D’s favourite bar (indie / rock)

HarrietofFire · 03/08/2023 20:55

Biscuit Factory is a really good shout. Then behind there is Ernest for your lunch. Across New Bridge Street to The Tanners not live music but good vibe. Free Trade Inn is ace, and brilliant free juke box. Brinkburn Brewery great for real ale and on the way to the Free Trade. Then a damp walk all the way along the Quayside to Frate.

BibbleandSqwauk · 03/08/2023 20:58

Blake's on Grey Street for lunch.

MsSquiz · 03/08/2023 21:10

High bridge, right in the city centre has a vintage shop called retro Newcastle (they have a fb page)

This page has a good selection of places:

newcastlegateshead.com/business-directory/food-and-drink/bars-clubs-pubs

Also the Grainger Market is lovely for a mooch around. There's a vintage clothes place in there too (the yesterday society) as well as lots of street food offerings (Mac & cheese, bao buns, bagels, pizza, etc)

By the river brew does both food and drink (has its own brewery) and is just on the Gateshead side of the river

MsSquiz · 03/08/2023 21:11

For quirky, there's now a cocktail bar in what used to be an underground public toilet on the Bigg Market (I haven't actually been, so can't really recommend) but there is an amazing Greek restaurant right next to it (Kafeneon)

DogDaysNeverEnd · 03/08/2023 21:20

Ouseburn/quayside sound like yout target locations, might be a bit overrun with kids on school holidays though.

Granddayout · 03/08/2023 22:07

Thanks so much all . Will research tomorrow on way .

For Flea Circus get a taxi or a number one stagecoach bus from the town to Warwick Street. Ask for the Star and Shadow cinema cos it's bigger and the drivers heard of it and it's in the same building. Then you can walk to the Biscuit Factory etc, and through the Ouseburn Valley back to the Quayside. Have a great day!

Nolongera · 04/08/2023 09:37

Beehive in the Bigg market.

Just kidding, but it is good if you enjoy MMA.

As said, Ouse Burn "scene", Pitcher and Piano after that.

SapphOhNo · 04/08/2023 09:51

Get the metro to Tynemouth. It's lovely. Beach, fish and chips.

Granddayout · 04/08/2023 10:04

Is flea circus near biscuit factort please

The bar with tattoos on the back wall sounds like Floritas - it has closed down now and opened as something else, which is probably why you can’t find it online.
have a fab time!

HarrietofFire · 04/08/2023 10:59

Yes 5 minute walk from Biscuit Factory to Flea Circus

campocaro · 04/08/2023 11:09

Best real ale pubs in Ouseburn are The Cumberland and Free Trade. Latter has fantastic views down the Tyne. Kiln in Ouseburn is wonderful for eating
