No electricity and company closed no emergency contact

I phoned the electric company yesterday to say that my meter was not working and I couldn't be sure if the top up was accept, it wasn't

The lady said it was because we'd had a power cut about a week ago, and the meter would need replacing, but assured me that it would not stop working and it's just gone to failsafe mode so can be sorted friday

Well I find out that there is no electricity at this hour and they don't open till 9 am and we have to be somewhere before that time

I’m amazed there’s no 24h contact - what company?

INeedAnotherName · 03/08/2023 00:53

Which company? Maybe someone can find an emergency contact.

travellinglighter · 03/08/2023 00:53

The trouble with pay meters is the fact that customer service is closed late at night. If you have anyone vulnerable in the house, phone105 and explain the vulnerability (elderly, young children, cpap etc) and they’ll come and fit a new meter to get you back on.

Disabledmumsrus · 03/08/2023 01:13

Who's 105? I phoned council by law they can't touch meter so can't do anything to help

It's a company named after an 8 legged sea creature not sure allowed to name them

From Octopus Energy website...

  • Call 105 to speak to your local electricity network operator. Tell them where you live and they will tell you if there is a problem in your area.
  • They also can check whether there has been any planned local power cuts (to do repairs, for example), and they should let you know when you’ll be back on supply. You can call this number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It's 150 in case they can help
but that will be the power network not octopus

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/08/2023 01:17

Sorry x post it is 105

It's not a Smart meter issue though is it? I think op means a pre-pay meter. Smart meters can be turned off/unplugged and it doesn't affect the supply at all.

Hopefully you'll be able to get it sorted in the morning op.

I think not having access to electricity and not knowing when you will get it is kinda an emergency especially if your hot water, etc relies on the electricity to run...

Have you managed to get help this morning OP?
