Last minute holiday with teen help!

Mostly here for traffic, but AIBU to ask for your help?

H and I have had a tough couple of years, we are trying to reconcile our differences and this will be our first holiday together in that time. He is not ready to do something just with us, wants to go away with S13, almost as a human shield. Older son is nearly 18 and not keen to go away, unless it is somewhere exciting!

We are looking for somewhere last minute mid-August, need to be able to keep a teenage boy entertained so we can get some time on our own, but also so he has fun and isn't just stuck with his parents.

I wanted to go to Cyprus or similar, H thinks it will be too hot and is talking about CenterParcs.

Where can we go that a 13 year old,and maybe a 17 year old can make new friends to hang out with, things to do, safe etc?

Almost all previous holidays were with friends with similar age kids. If we stay in UK, I can probably 'borrow' a 13 year old for a few days!

Inspiration please! Hit me with ideas, let me look at the budget. I have savings that I can spend to make it work.

Thank you!

What do the teens like? City breaks? Adventure stuff? Beach lounging?

How about a center parcs in Europe?

It honestly sounds like your husband wants a quick and easy getaway if he needs one. And using a 13 year old as his human shield?

I don't think this sticking plaster holiday is going to work so I'm with your husband, stay closer to home and take a friend for your son

Adventure, outdoors, activity type stuff.
Did a few city breaks when they were younger. I could definitely see that working, if it was somewhere with enough history.

Have you looked at PGL or Mark Warner holidays?

Plenty of activities to do!

That was just my terminology. Neither of us are ready for the intensity of a couple type holiday with just each other for company and it is kids summer holiday time.

I could have asked the same question without the background as to why it is so last minute. 🤷‍♀️

PortAventura in Spain ( massive theme park). You can stay nearby?

Whataretheodds · 31/07/2023 20:48

I was also going to suggest a last-minute deal with Mark Warner or Neilson. The only thing is your teen might be off at the youth club for at least half the day so you wouldn't necessarily have his company apart from at dinner.

Do haggle on price, they usually offer good discount for last minute - bar credit if not cash discount, but you could also try for discounts on lessons.

alsopeggy · 31/07/2023 21:00

Yes definitely Neilson or Mark Warner. You can all do activities you enjoy to get your own space and then take time to talk and enjoy each others company as we'll

Salou with the Theme park was great for my 2 at those ages.

Riverlee · 31/07/2023 21:22

Duinrell in Holland was my first thought. There’s a theme park and pool complex on site to keep the teens happy. It’s also near Amsterdam, plus beaches, towns around for day trips.

MrTeatime · 31/07/2023 21:25

Somewhere like this any good? Pool complex, archery, treetop adventure courses, etc.
