To ask where to stay in Sydney

We are travelling to Australia for the first time and will spend our first two nights in Sydney.
I can’t sleep on planes so will be in desperate need of a quiet dark hotel room but in easy reach of stuff to do.
Apparently there is loads of construction going on at the moment.

Can anyone who knows Sydney (and the current construction disruption ) recommend
an area, or even better, a hotel to stay in?

Do you want to be near the centre, the tourist areas or a beach?

Probably not a beach (we are doing beach things later in our trip).

Ideally within 20-30 minutes public transport/ walk of tourist attractions?

Great views! I think they are redeveloping Darling Harbour, do you happen to know if the Hyatt is affected?
Well be there at the end of August.

Hyatt (Park) is in the harbour facing Opera house, no construction noise but you hear the odd ferry. The rooms re very well glazed and if you go for a cheaper non view room you will be silent.

Regency is the other Hyatt, noisy as in darling h.

Sydney is a bustling in city, you’ll be so pooped and jet lagged that I think you will sleep well anywhere!

If you want to have quietness go for for Balmain and take the gorgeous ferry into the harbour.
