To want a bidet

BinFace · 30/07/2023 10:12

On holiday at the mo in a hotel with a bidet in the bathroom and I am loving it. Just wondering if anyone had one at home? I think when I grew up my parents saw them as a bit grubby (maybe thought of people using the bidet instead of regular showers/baths) but as an addition they seem fab. I’m also increasingly aware of how some other cultures are just using toilet paper as a bit grubby.

Do you have one?

How often do you take a dump such that a 2-3 minute washing episode would cause you such inconvenience?!

I have IBS. I'd never be dry some days!

If you want to retro fit to an existing toilet have a look at Washloo.co.uk

Can anyone who's had a bum gun installed on a normal toilet tell me how much it cost and if you need anything fancy? Moving house and might want to fancy up my en suite loo, but on a tiny budget.

I have a bum gun from... oh my days I'm afraid to say it on here .... shein! (It literally came up on my google search for one and at the price it was I thought it was worth a try) I got the silver head separately (still shein though) as I didn't want the plastic head that came with the tap part. It's fab! Was about £15 all in and fits my taps perfectly. When on my period I use it every time and for those not quite so clean poops 🤦🏼‍♀️

LividHot · 30/07/2023 16:27

@Yorkshireteaformethanks so it attaches to the sink taps? Interesting. I think I want one that's attached to the cistern, but dunno?

Virginsexonthebeachplease · 30/07/2023 16:29

We have a bum gun in our house and I love it. I didn't grow up with one and didn't use them when I came across them abroad when I was younger but I also now feel like using toilet paper just isn't sufficient to feel clean!

Sorry yes, I should have said, it's attached to the tap which in the upstairs bathroom is by the toilet. There's a short hose that reaches to the loo. There a little switch on the bit that attaches to the tap so you can use the tap as normal for teeth cleaning, hand washing etc. There's probably some a lot better out there but honestly for what it cost it's great. I looked at the cistern ones but wasn't sure how that would work as ours is enclosed in a vanity unit (I think they call it) with the sink in too.

Virginsexonthebeachplease · 30/07/2023 17:28

Our bum gun isn't attached to the toilet or sink. It's a separate fitting next the toilet. It wasn't expensive at all but it was done when we moved into the house and had the whole bathroom done and tiled so was probably much easier that way.

When I had my first child 31 years ago I stayed at a maternity hospital for a week (it was more like a hotel and was bliss !) they had bidets and o m g after childbirth it was a revelation! I'd have one if I could .

LetUsPounce · 30/07/2023 18:21

Yes, we have one. They're not the norm here (we live in Germany) bu we wouldn't be without it.

AlexandraPeppernose · 30/08/2023 22:38

After going to Spain this year which had one whilst having a really heavy period I fitted one that goes under the loo seat today. It is amazing. You turn it one way for bums and the other for your bits. Best 30 quid I've ever spent and with 3 menstruating females in the house will be very useful

AlexandraPeppernose · 30/08/2023 22:43

I got this one. It plumbed into the pipe feed

We've recently renovated and installed a Japanese style one in the en-suite. Not a separate bidet, but part of the toilet. Until reading this thread, I had no idea that people used toilet paper, then used the bidet wash. How do you then dry yourself?

I use the wash function then dry with toilet paper. Ours does have a dryer function- but it seems to take ages. It does feel cleaner, especially when menstruating or having bowels open. I read on another thread of people using a communal towel to dry after washing, but TBH- which sounds grim. I'd like to know what is the 'done thing' in terms of drying etc from those who have used them for years?

I always wet wash after using the toilet but I do it at the sink, ideally with a flannel and I have a small towel to stop the floor getting wet.

we used to have a bidet growing up but I only ever washed my feet in it and wasn’t taught how to use it although I know my parents did.

I hate it when I’m out and about and only have horrible dry paper to use, especially after a bowel movement. I never feel clean and think it’s revolting.

Add into this that many people don’t shower daily and honestly it’s so horrible to me how unclean the average Brit is.

politely, do you think maybe you have a hygiene obsession @Muckysmucky?

I mean the flannel/towel thing - do you do that at work?

drearydear · 31/08/2023 00:03

I have one of those jugs (buy cheaply EBay or Amazon) and fill it with warm water and the tiniest squirt of liquid soap. Fill it in the sink, rinse, while on the loo, then dry using a flannel (we have a basket of face flannels and muslin), flannel into the wash basket.

It doesn't feel clean to just use loo paper, and I don't like the idea of loo wipes as they'd have to go into the bin presumably.

Chunkyspunkymunkey · 31/08/2023 00:14

I would love one, but can’t work out how to use them. Ones that are plumbed into the cistern, presumably take cold water from the cistern? What if you use a bleach block in the cistern to keep toilet clean?

How do the ones from the taps work- attach it to the tap or to the tap pipe? Oh to have a Japanese fanny/bum wash and dryer!
