To not care how family think of me?

Just been told by my SIL (brothers wife) that they and other family members regularly get together but don't invite me because they think I'm weird. She was shocked when I said that's fine as I have no interest in spending time with them.

I have a much loved husband, step kids and friends that I regularly socialise with. Am I wrong in having no interest in socialising with my much older siblings/cousins (12 year difference between me and the next youngest)?

YANBU at all! They sound rude and unpleasant.

Fatkittythinkitty · 28/07/2023 21:11

YANBU.. your sil at the very least is a cruel, nasty piece of work to tell you that. Sounds like you're better off without them.

abyssofwoah · 28/07/2023 21:12

Jeez, she sounds like a bitch. And if it’s true you definitely can live without being around these people.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 28/07/2023 21:15

Well. She sounds a delight.

I'm glad you pissed on her fireworks, she clearly wanted to start some drama.

YANBU

However, I wouldn’t go off someone’s word alone.

Imo, someone’s “weird” is someone else’s amazing. I’ve been called weird by family members and what amounts to weirdness to them is enjoying different genres of music, not being religious or belonging to a major political party and loving sushi.

I love your response! Fuck em.

Hoppinggreen · 28/07/2023 21:18

Well she’s a delight isn’t she?
Why would you want to spend time with such awful people?

Noicant · 28/07/2023 21:19

Oh wow I’m not surprised you aren’t bothered about spending time with them. Who says that!? What a horrible person.
