Looking to head to one that is accessible by 2/3hrs train from London?

Ideally a resort that is walkable to sandy beach...but with the weather its not guaranteed that we can get on!

Vauxhall holiday park (park dean ) is close to Great Yarmouth train station. You can walk to the beach and the town, albeit on a footpath by a busy road. It's also quite near asda.

Butlins in Bognor Regis is about 20 mins walk from the train station and right on the seafront too. There's a decent stretch of sand when the tide is out.

Hafan y mor north wales (haven). Not sure how long on the train - you will need to switch at Birmingham new street and then it takes you straight to Pwllheli where you can either get off a a request stop or in Pwllheli itself and get a bus/taxi.

Romney sands in Kent, train to folkestone central then pick up the 16 and 102 buses. It is a long way out to the sea when tide is out though. Its on a steam railway so you can have a trip on that, and visit some other places by bus like Folkestone. We enjoyed the entertainment.

Naze Marine at Walton-On-Naze is lovely and the beaches are beautiful. It's run by Park Dean Resorts.

Alberta caravan park in Whitstable is nice but the beaches aren't sandy.

Sorry, meant to say it's less than 5 minutes walk to the beach.

There are a few Haven sites around Weymouth, and it is a 2'45 direct train from London

I've been to Cala Gran near Blackpool, but it's nowhere near the beach. And I think after I last went, they've been having more problems with stink from the landfill next door...

For the ones that aren't next to a literal dump, I reckon Haven are better than Butlins or Pontins these days. You still get what you pay for, and arriving to a dirty caravan is the most common complaint, but the caravans are generally less run down than the ancient chalets.

Camber sands. You can get the train to Rye, taxi to Camber about 10 mins. Walk to the beach easily. On a crap day you can go into Rye which is a lovely town.

The North Yorkshire coast has several of these parks and train stations in Filey and Scarborough.. some train options less than 3 hrs..

jeaux90 · 02/08/2023 09:27

I'd avoid the holiday parks like butlins etc better off going with family run/independent places. The cleanliness thing seems to crop up a lot with the chain ones.

Burnham on sea - you can get the train to Weston Super Mare and then a bus to close to the caravan park.
