To think this is a waste of public resources?

I'll preface by admitting ignorance as to the apparent necessity of the following, so if anyone is able to educate me then I'd genuinely like to know.

A lorry carrying a train carriage passed me in my town earlier today. It was being escorted by a 'large load' vehicle, a police motorbike, 4 marked police cars and 1 unmarked police car, all with blue lights.

The large load vehicle is obvious. A 2 car, blue light police escort is even understandable (front and back), especially if it's necessarily for them to go through red lights to prevent the lorry from needing to stop and start. But 5, and a motorbike?

AIBU to think at least a couple of these resources could have been being used to attend to necessary calls? I used to work in emergency services (not police), and I remember how few resources they used to have at times, so a 6 police vehicle escort seems excessive.

Happy to be educated as to why this is necessary if someone does know because this is the second time in 3 weeks I've seen a similarly sized escorts for similarly sized vehicles (that fit perfectly well on a single carriage road I will add, not like the double carriageway vehicles you sometimes see on the motorway).

Our wide loads are staffed by officers on overtime, paid for by the companies requiring the escort. So wouldn’t have been on duty ordinarily.

And while it looks excessive there will be some road closures needed which will require multiple units.
