To ask what car you have if you have more than 1 DC?

Finally getting rid of my tiny Vauxhall for something bigger to accommodate for new DC, but just not sure what to get!

I want something nice but practical. I'm mid 20s so still youngish, I quite like the new version Vauxhall Corsa's but not sure if they're too associated with boy racers? 😅

What do you all have?

How old are the children? I have an Audi A3 which is a nice runner but my children are teens and past the car seat stage. My car prior to this was a Renault scenic which was nice and high, really easy to load dc into the car seat and had lots of little cupboards and an extra "mum" mirror to keep an eye on the kids in the back, oh and fold down tables on the back of the seats.

vivaforeverr · 25/07/2023 22:13

@TheGoodBanana He's 4, so still in the car seat at the moment and will be for a while. Honestly don't know how I've managed with a 2 door car all this time, absolute nightmare getting him in and out, not to mention the teeny boot. Only wish I'd done this months and months ago!

I would definitely go with something a bit higher, it makes life with car seats so much easier. I originally went to look at an Astra and felt like I was sat on the floor! Saw the Scenic by chance whilst there and loved it, it was my first car and like driving a gold fish bowl, excellent visibility and tons of boot space.

Golf. Had 3 now and love them. Really spacious boot, legroom even with 2 kids seats and my model is super fast (not great on the petrol cost ha). Mine are 4 and 5.

MrsSamR · 25/07/2023 22:19

BMW X3 - for 2 DCs in car seats (3 and 9 months). Feels safe and spacious and the boot is a good size.

SertralineAndTherapy · 25/07/2023 22:20

Skoda Octavia. Two teens (one with a sport which requires lots of equipment!)

I have just got a new car and agree with PP to get something higher up. I have kids 2 and 6 and have a Qashqai now and it's fab!

We also have a Skoda Octavia and absolutely love it! We have two little ones and the size of the boot for going away is the best thing about the car!

How much do you use it, and what do you need to transport?

We have two DC (4, and 14 months) and we have an Aygo. It's small, but fits the pram (plus a suitcase) in the boot. Plus we aren't tall. DH can't drive (due to a medical condition) so we don't use it that much. It's pretty cheap to run.

But I wouldn't recommend it if you have a large pram, or if you are tall, because the front seats do have to be a bit further forward due to the larger extended rear facing car seat we've used. And we did have to specifically buy a pram that was fairly compact when folded (an Oyster).

I had a couple of Fiestas when the DC were young then upgraded to a Focus. Had that for 14 years, loved that car. Boot big enough for pushchair etc, plenty of legroom (and elbow room), fits 3 teenagers in back okay, plenty of spare parts around resulting in cheaper repairs, great runner, never let me down except needing a new battery.

Did I mention how much I loved it? 😂

vivaforeverr · 25/07/2023 22:40

I'd be using a lot and it'd probably have to fit 2 compact size prams in the boot

Q3 I love mine

Cracklecrack · 26/07/2023 09:36

Vauxhall meriva here. V practical- quite high up , back doors open outwards so easier for car seats etc and decent boot space. We’re on our second one they’ve done us well. Bit of a boring looking car thoigh.

kaffkooks · 26/07/2023 09:38

We previously had a skoda fabia estate and now have a ford focus estate. Great for transporting people and stuff, especially as we do a lot of outdoor activities and camping. The non estate versions of both those cars are good too if you don't need the extra boot space.

EugeneEufy · 26/07/2023 09:39

When mine were all in car seats I had an Audi Q7, so much easier to get them in and out when they’re higher up.
Now they’re older I have a Mercedes E-Class, massive boot and very comfortable.

Same, about the focus, right down to it needing a new battery!

I have a lexus ls250, nice and spacious.

2chocolateoranges · 26/07/2023 09:44

We’ve had a few Scenics as the boot space is amazing. We have a q2 now which has a good boot size too.

Hotpinkangel19 · 26/07/2023 10:29

DH has a BMW 530. I have a Mini Countryman.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 26/07/2023 10:35

Since having 2 kids I’ve had….
a Kia Sportage - loved it, loads of room.
a Skoda Fabia - tiny and no oomph. It was an emergency stop gap and I got rid as soon as I could.
a Qashqai +2 which is great as it’s a 7 seater so either has a massive boot or extra seats to take kids friends or our family out with us.

DH has had…
Ford Focus - good family car, roomy.
VW CC - but more sporty, seems to increase incidents of travel sickness! Massive boot so great for taking loads of stuff out with us.
