To ask your opinion on holographic sequins for Xmas?

Perhaps this should be one for the style & beauty section, but it's been quite quiet there lately so I'm asking here.

I've found a lovely dress (long sleeved with a higher neck so not summery) that I purchased. It was described as being covered in silver sequins. I purchased in advance to wear for the Christmas season. But when it arrived it's not plain silver sequins, but silver holographic sequins. I'm in two minds about it. I love the fit of the dress, but I'm worried the holographic sequins are a little too bright and attention grabbing to wear for Christmas. I feel like it's giving off festival vibes, except that it's more suited to cool weather.

AIBU to ask your opinion on what you'd think if someone showed up to Christmas dinner / party / NYE in a full length holographic sequin gown?

Surely it depends what is normal for your social group?

I wouldn't wear a sequin gown for a Christmas dinner party because the parties we go to are pretty informal - jeans and a nice top if you really want to make an effort, Christmas jumper if not.

If it works for your outings though, wear away!

It was on sale. I've been eyeing it up since Xmas last year. I'd rather plan ahead get a good deal now so I can be prepared, than 'struggle' financially and have to buy a new outfit plus Christmas gifts and all other costs associated with Xmas and NYE all in Nov / Dec

This is it. It does look slightly holographic in the photo, but I wasn't sure if it was just the photo online. But it's very holographic in person

YABU to think anything can be too bright and attention-seeking at Christmas.

Seriously, in a season of tinsel, flashing lights, lamella and all sorts of shiny toot plastered everywhere, that's relatively restrained.

Wear it with contrasting accessories and if you're at a party and you don't want to talk to someone, just lean against the wall and you'll be mistaken for the decorations. 😉

I think anything goes at Christmas. It's the one time of year when too much is not enough!!
