To think this knife salesman was a scammer

We were visiting my friend's greasy spoon last week.

A sales/maintainance person walked in confidently, in a uniform carrying a big metal box, went behind the counter and said to my friend.

'You need to sign for these'

The man was from a kitchen knife sharpening company (the brand name was on his uniform) and he was pretty 'blunt' about it.

'Your boss ordered them, sign here'

My friend who is a huge bloke and not imtimidated laughed and said 'i am the boss'

The chap had invoices with the business's address on it prepared.

'Ohh ok, in that case you'd better speak with my manager...'

He quickly spoke with the knifemans manager on the phone.

My friend (english isnt his first language) said the man he spoke to (also a non native speaker) said 'ahh so you are about to become our new customer!'

So my friend laughed, said they were both stupid and told the salesman he was a fraud and should never come back.

I googled the knife company, they have facebook group with ex employees complaining of mistreatment, countless 1 star reviews. It must be run by gangsters.

Should we contact trading standards or the police? Obviously my friend was scared by them, but what if they show up at a tea room when the manager is out and a part time staff member signs for the 'delivery'?

Here is one of the reviews. They sound more like drug dealers than a legit business....

I'd report to the local police too. This sounds even dodgier than just plain fraud.

It's a scam. In my experience, small businesses are the target for an insane number of different scam artists. It's wild west out there.
