... to say if you've missed a few episodes of The Archers recently last night's would be a good place to start listening again?

It was a cracker. If you can't bear to listen to the whole thing, fast forward to the last three minutes or so. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001nvsp 19 years of plotline planning led up to this! (Not related to Helen Archer and Rob Titchener, I promise.)

If you then need a place to vent, feel free to join us in Radio Addicts where we obsessively carp over discuss every episode of The Archers: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4848471-archers-thread-150-for-whom-the-sausage-rolls-george-over-a-berrow-fallon-harrison-seek-new-lease-on-life-is-it-all-a-fete-accompli-discuss-the-snivelling-simpletons-sorry-the-archers-here

Archers thread #150: For whom the sausage rolls: George over a Berrow, Fallon & Harrison seek new lease on life, is it all a Fête Accompli? Discuss The Snivelling Simpletons, sorry, The Archers, here. | Mumsnet

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads. [archers] All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welco...

Thanks for this. I'm an avid listener but have been so busy over the last couple of months that I haven't managed to listen. I have some vague ideas about what's been happening but was wondering whether to bother trying to catch up on the episodes I've missed.

I won't bother and will start again with this. Thanks!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/07/2023 10:11

Hope you enjoy it, @Bellajac!

George is a wrong'un. What more is there to add?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/07/2023 12:45

Well, that's the headline, but there's plenty of detail to mull over!

Did anyone else have a strong sense of deja vu (entendu) when George made his big speech? I really felt that he had made identical comments about his family before, just not to their faces.

OhComeOnFFS · 25/07/2023 11:15

Thanks for this! I used to listen to it all the time but haven't for the last three months or so. I listen to the omnibus editions, so would you say I should go back two or three?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/07/2023 11:50

I think I'd recommend the last two weeks if you can spare the time, @OhComeOnFFS.

Sorry, the Archers I used to know and love has gone forever. After over 30 years of listening I will never go back now.

Daphnis156 · 29/07/2023 15:23

They've all forgiven George now ,so big anti-climax.

KimberleyClark · 29/07/2023 15:27

I stopped listening during lockdown when they were doing those stupid monologue episodes and never started again.

Everything is always a big anti climax on the Archers. Nothing ever seems to have real long term ramifications.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/07/2023 21:58

I don't think that really stands up when the two big stories currently are:

  1. Rob tries to get back into Helen's life and see his son Jack after an absence of many years. He is trying to manipulate his stepson Henry to that end.
  2. 18yo George Grundy has just lost the plot with his mother, father and stepfather/uncle/one-time putative father because their tangled relationships in the distant past when he was convceived have made his life hell at school.

I couldn't be less interested.

Actual farmers and country folk round here though - I have all the time in the world for them.

MutantTurtles · 29/07/2023 22:03

It wasn't a good place

I was brought up on the archers- 40 years of listening to every episode (that grandad for 30 years of recordings)

I listened to every episode until the whole helen/rob stuff many years ago

It was really badly handled ( I worked in domestic abuse at the time and it was farcical and misleading)

I stopped listening for quite a while

I now dip in but have recently been 100% listening

The recent episodes have made me switch off again (with frustration about the lack of reality)
