To send these as proof of right to work

Hello sorry for the gross misuse of the AiBu board but need some advice! I have a job Interview but need to provide proof of right to work ASAP. Passport is long expired and seems to have disappeared somewhere in the house (fairly sure it’s still here just quite chaotic here at the moment) anyway told the company I’d send proof of work today and not long made it home from work/ my dc birthday celebrations and discovered passport is MIA.

Don’t want to look flaky by not following though on the promise and still have 1.5 hours of ‘today’ left.. I know I can send my birth certificate along with a government letter showing Nat insurance number. So my question is can i just send a photo of my birth cert and a screenshot of my last P45? Or would it need to be actual documents scanned in? Really don’t want to fail at this basic task and look like a hopeless idiot at this stage 🤣

Photos should be ok. We take copies of documents for work, and often photograph them instead of scanning them. I would do that as long as they are clear and the document fills the photoscreen with little to no background.

WaspLady · 19/07/2023 22:36

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 Okay thank you!

Use cam scanner! A free app that will turn pics into pdfs

daffodilandtulip · 19/07/2023 22:40

CamScanner works really well to make a photo look more like a professional document.

Didnt think of that. My samsung has an option to convert photos to pdf.

CantFindTheBeat · 19/07/2023 22:43

As PPs have said, use your phone to scan them OP.

It's really easy:

As part of our safer recruitment I have to see the original documents then endorse the copies confirming I have seen the original. No way would we accept photos.

countingdaysuntilretirement · 19/07/2023 22:45

You should ask them. In my workplace a birth cert with proof of NI is fine but you must bring them (or your passport) in in person.

MovieQueen12 · 19/07/2023 22:50

I always had to show original copies.
I too had an expired passport but it was fine alongside birth certificate

banjaxxed · 19/07/2023 22:55

The originals need to be seen and verified by the employer

Photos are not going to cut it

banjaxxed · 19/07/2023 22:57

Ah hang on just saw this is an interview? Are they asking for them in advance?

You can send the photo etc but I would take them on the day for the 'proper' copies if they offer

WaspLady · 19/07/2023 22:57

@Icequeen01 i’m pretty sure my last p45 came by email only with no paper copy. So would I have to print it out and scan it rather than send a screenshot. Not really clued up on this side of things though as I’ve spent most of my life self employed until recently!

@banjaxxed see my last comment re digital p45. I’m sure I didn’t get a paper copy!

Icequeen01 · 19/07/2023 23:00

Yes a printed copy of your P45 would be fine. It's ID documents and qualifications I would need to see originals.

banjaxxed · 19/07/2023 23:01

Screenshot - no

Downloaded and emailed PDF - yes

WaspLady · 19/07/2023 23:03

@Icequeen01 & @banjaxxed okay thanks, that’s good to know. I don’t have my passport so the only official ID document I have is my birth certificate, I used my driving license for ID last time but they haven’t included that in the list.

I had an interview last week and showed an expired passport only, it was fine!

banjaxxed · 19/07/2023 23:03

Also, it's in advance of an offer

Just send what you can now, and take originals to interview (in case iof future offer) Smile

If the want to give you the job, they will chase the proper docs. (I work in recruitment for a very big employer Smile)

MaybeTomorrowItllBeOK · 19/07/2023 23:03

At my place we need to physically see the originals.

Passport (expired is fine) or Bjrth Cert + P45/60/NI Card.

Obviously you can't take them in now and it still be 'today' but you could send a photo and then say you'll bring in/post tomorrow.

ginoclocksomewhere · 19/07/2023 23:04

Ignore me, either I can't read or didn't process that it's missing 🤦🏼‍♀️

WaspLady · 19/07/2023 23:07

Thanks everyone the interview is online and the office is miles away they asked for copies so I’ll just send what I can. Wish I could remember what I’ve done with my passport because I know it’s here somewhere, it would make everything less stressful!

@banjaxxed hope your not the recruiter I’m dealing with, if you get an email at 11:59 with some badly photographed Id documents please pretend we never had this conversation 🤣
