Telling tall tales to your kids - cute or some unforeseen consequences

I tell my kids (still small) little stories about their toys coming to life, fairies etc. They love it and ask for them all the time. Only thing is, eldest is at school and tells their friends these stories.

Is this cute and fun and they'll remember them fondly? Or is it setting them up for social suicide or some weird consequence I haven't foreseen??

My 16yo niece is a bit uncertain about whether the scar on DHs leg is from a cheetah bite....

@PuttingDownRoots haha - I love that!

It depends on the tale in my opinion and whether they're of an age where they understand it's not true but are playing along.

Ones like PuttingDownRoots shared are funny and probably going to become a fond story. If the tales are funny and the children understand it's make-believe then they'd probably also be remembered fondly.

An 8/9 year old sincerely believing that there's fairies in the garden is probably going to be less fondly remembered.

My now adult nephews and nieces used to believe that the operation scar on my back was from when I had a summer job shark wrangling in Cornwall and got bitten. They are now passing the story on to their own children.

When I was little (many years ago!), my mum made up a story about a witch who lived down the lane from us. She told it at a little Halloween party we had. I remember being well aware that it was just a story and also that she had made it up. Clearly not everyone realised because I have since seen the.story recounted in two separate articles about local folklore and legends.
