TomorrowToday · 17/07/2023 22:40

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and went from severe morning sickness, mental health crisis and now suspected blood clot in lung.

Would I be unreasonable if I just took the rest of the week of?

I've had about four days of in 20 weeks as sick.

I started the job in January.

I don't know what to say to my boss.

But you ARE sick. Take the time off.

BlairWaldorfOG · 17/07/2023 22:42

Absolutely not unreasonable. Get well soon!

EvilElsa · 17/07/2023 22:42

I'd imagine you'd be signed off by the doctor in this circumstance?
If you need the time off you need the time off.

Doctors are always wanting to sign me of.... because it's no skin of their nose

I just don't know if my boss is going to hate me more

You can self certify for a week and you absolutely shows stay off in these circumstances

If it were me, I would mention they were checking your blood clot in lung

You shouldn't have to, but I would just feel easier that they might feel differently - as it was not specifically pregnancy related

It's not because it's no skin off their nose, it's because you are ill. You've said so yourself. They want to sign you off because you are unfit for work.
It's totally up to you, but would you rather take a few days off or end up really poorly and signed off for weeks. Don't grind yourself into the ground. I can't say if your boss will hate you or not but you are not lying or taking the piss. Get a note, take your doctors advice and rest.

You are sick. You need to take time off. Rest and get yourself better.

Are you aware that pregnancy related sickness must be recorded seperatejy to other sickness, and can not be used in disciplinary action against you?

here

I don't know what your previous 4 days sick were for, but if they were pregnancy related, and your employer knows that you are pregnant, they can't count against you.

I had 8 weeks off in both pregnancies I was so ill.

You need to speak to your HR Dept/person asap. I realise that this might be your boss, and more easily said than done.

MammaTo · 18/07/2023 06:47

Have a look at your HR policy as I know in my work if you was off for X amount of time they’d start your maternity early.

Might be worth having up your sleeve to know.

HappyAsASandboy · 18/07/2023 07:23

They can only start your maternity leave early if you're off sick later than 36 weeks

Yes. I don't think this is pregnancy related, as such. I'm just exhausted.
