To ask for your October half term ideas, Greece, Cyprus or canaries??

Which will be hotter and generally guaranteed better weather? Google seems to be telling me different answers depending on which website I'm on so I'm looking for first hand experiences. Obviously the October half term is later this year so it doesn't start until 28th oct.

The canaries is bloody lovely in October half term.

phoenixrosehere · 17/07/2023 16:53

What activities are you looking to do and how old are the child/children?

holidaysearches · 17/07/2023 16:54

@phoenixrosehere we just want a nice relaxing (as relaxing as it can be with kids!) holidays, so lazing by the pool, going to the beach, walking around the local towns etc. kids are 4 and 6

The Canaries or Southern Turkey likely to be warmer. End of October may be iffy in Greece or Cyprus.

Iwishmymumwouldbemymum · 17/07/2023 17:02

I don't think you'd get the weather in Greece but you would in Lanzarote.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 17/07/2023 17:07

Hmmm. I’d say Cyprus or the canneries. You may be ok with a southern Greek island like Crete, but still more of a gamble.

the canaries will be your safest option that late in the year, but I don’t find them as appealing as a place.

Ah. We usually take ours on city breaks because they wouldn’t sit still long enough to lazy around a beach and I and the youngest aren’t a fan of the pool.

Saying that, Southern coast of Spain (around Malaga) was quite lovely when we went despite the weather. We went on a family holiday with the in-laws in June so it was roasting and I’m not heat-tolerant or a beach person. However, it has all the things you’re looking for.

I have gone to Southern Italy and Portugal around that time and found the weather beautiful with lots to see and do. I have heard great things about Faro and Algrave, Portugal and enjoyed the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Prestat · 17/07/2023 17:13

Cyprus, still good weather.

Cyprus, still good weather.

To add and I am not so keen on Canaries.

holidaysearches · 17/07/2023 17:32

Thanks everyone. Think we may look at fuerteventura as Dh isn't keen on Lanzarote

Canaries. No brainer. Tenerife, or fuerteventura if you like a breeze

Hamilton1 · 17/07/2023 18:41

Weather wise you should be ok but we find the pools cold in October which means the kids don’t want to go in. Definitely try to look for somewhere with a heated pool.

Fourmagpies · 17/07/2023 18:47

We went to gran canaria last October half term and it was lovely. We were on the far side to the airport in Puerto de Mogan. It was cooler at night but pleasantly so.

Delatron · 17/07/2023 18:48

We’ve been to Lanzarote the last few October half terms and had amazing weather. It’s more reliable in the Canaries.
I understand lots of people don’t like Lanzarote but there are some nice places and I find the volcanic landscape quite beautiful!

Unreliable in Greece at that time.

holidaysearches · 17/07/2023 20:13

Not sure if anyone is still on here but if so does anyone happen to know if Ryanair require passport numbers to book seats together. We've just booked a holiday and need to book seats together because of children's ages but our passports have expired and we are currently waiting for the new ones to arrive!

Not sure about Greece or Cyrus but we went to Fuertaventura at the end of October a couple of years ago and the weather was great, our DD who was 3 at the time and first holiday abroad for her, absolutely loved it, as did I!

DazedandConcerned · 18/07/2023 07:25

Rhodes is lovely end of October. I go every year then.

At this age, honestly take them out for 3 days before and get a cheap flight on a Wednesday. Unless you are a teacher of course. Good places to go in October are Turkey, Southern Italy (Naples or Puglia), Andelucia in Spain or Sicily . Enjoy, very jealous.

reenon · 18/07/2023 07:55

Cyprus.. We were in Paphos last October and it was lovely and warm

ZannahStop · 18/07/2023 08:27

Ryanair won't let you sit apart from the children. You select on booking and don't need passport details

JustDanceAddict · 18/07/2023 08:30

I was in Cyprus last Oct and it was lovely weather. All those places should be warm still.

Newgirls · 18/07/2023 08:34

Lanzarote is far nicer than people expect and an interesting place to explore. I would say even the canaries can have a rainy day/morning at that time of year so check before you go and pack what you need but most days will be warm. If you plan some exploring days as well as beach days then you won’t be disappointed

Delatron · 18/07/2023 08:35

Just a warning - last October the whole of southern Europe was unseasonably warm over the half term. This was unusual. It wouldn’t normally be that reliably warm in Greece and Cyprus.

holidaysearches · 18/07/2023 16:10

@Goldencup unfortunately I work in a school so I can't
