Do charity shops wants used kids underwear?

I'm having a sort out, have about 40 pairs of kids undies. All good condition but used obviously. Do you chuck in the bin or give to the charity shop? I wouldn't buy second hand, but someone might?

Do you have a local school. In reception we had a lot of accidents and having spare pants was very useful

DyslexicPoster · 17/07/2023 16:00

We do but they go in the rag bag

WonderingWhale · 17/07/2023 16:00

DH's aunt gave us a bag of "special" clothes she wanted to pass down to our daughter including some very well used training pants! They went straight in the bin!

I would not buy second hand underwear but I know what you mean. DD has grown out of her pants so quickly that they still look brand new and it seems a shame to bin them. Could you offer them on a local mum's group or maybe vinted for a very token sum?

Local nursery for the "emergency" drawer or fabric recycling bin.

SeatonCarew · 17/07/2023 16:02

Isn't there a charity that collects pants for girls in Africa to help prevent rape? I'm sure I've read something about it.

Caspianberg · 17/07/2023 16:03

Nursery or primary school. I know ds nursery definitely has random pants in basket as back up emergency pairs.

Luxell934 · 17/07/2023 16:04

Maybe not charity shops but possibly a women's shelter or nursery/primary school?

SeatonCarew · 17/07/2023 16:04

No sorry, it's Smallsforall.org but they only collect new pants.

Mortgageportgage · 17/07/2023 16:06

Thanks, I didn't think about the school! I will check with the secretary but that seems the obvious answer.

Ask them? They could tell you.

I used to volunteer in a sorting warehouse for a local charity. We had all sorts of things donated, including pants. They would go in the rag pile and be sold by the kg to the rag man (along with clothes that weren’t fit for sale, old bedding etc). Not sure what he did with them but there is obviously a use for them somewhere. I wouldn’t give them directly to a charity shop as they will likely have to store them until they can pass them on to someone else and storage is a problem in charity shops. Instead put them in one of those bags for kerbside collection or one of the big bins you get in supermarket car parks and then they’ll likely to be taken to a much bigger sorting facility and more likely to be made use of rather than out straight in the bin.

Our local childrens clothing exchange/baby bank take them!

I volunteer in a charity shop. Yes they go straight in the rag bag. I'm sure the underwear you are talking about is lovely and clean, but we get loads of used revolting stuff. No one wants to sort through underwear to see if it's clean or not. Please don't give it directly to a charity shop.
