To think this is excessive hair loss (pic attached)

This is from one post shower brush. Hair gets washed atleast every 2 days so it's not even days worth of build up. Does this look excessive?

I had this three months after severe illness (pneumonia) when I was still stick thin. Gradually came back thankfully. Take some good supplements -I’ll post back when I find the ones I used. It was really upsetting as hair was coming out in clumps!

AnchorWHAT · 15/07/2023 13:39

Not to me as i get a small handful after every wash

spidersenses · 15/07/2023 13:41

It depends how thick and long your hair is. For me, no it wouldn't be. Loads comes out when I wash my hair.

Lago1 · 15/07/2023 13:42

I have fine hair as it is 😭 I did a crash diet 3 months ago, so ties in perfectly but I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid hence asking if it looks a lot to others

My guess is the diet. I used Oenobiol. All the B vitamins esp B12. Eat well!!!

shockthemonkey · 15/07/2023 13:48

I’m exactly like you, fine hair so couldn’t be losing that amount without it being super noticeable. I’d bet a months salary you’ll get it back! Will look messy at first as the Re growth being short it sticks up straight until it gains length!

Sceptre86 · 15/07/2023 13:50

I'd say no but I lose a lot more everyday after brushing my hair. I'm on iron tablets and take B vitamins. I was also bleeding lots in between periods and having heavier periods. Now that we have a handle on that I'm losing much less hair. Go for a blood test and watch your diet.

danni0509 · 15/07/2023 13:51

That’s totally normal for me, I have super thick hair though, grows like a weed too. So not noticeable.

I block the hoover foot all the time!

BelindaBears · 15/07/2023 13:52

I’d say no but I lose absolutely loads as I have quite thick hair anyway. Does it seem like more than what’s usual for you? It’s probably whether it’s a change from your normal rather than the amount that would indicate if it’s anything to be concerned about.

Lago1 · 15/07/2023 13:58

It's hard to figure out if it's more than normal as I've never really thought about it before. It's definitely over the 100 hairs a day they say is normal though

I think the fact that you're asking yourself - and us - whether it's normal means that it isn't. I also doubted and doubted - especially as the loss came on so gradually - until a whole clump slid out as I was brushing.

Anyway, for me, it was a combination of eating properly again as I was severely underweight at the time, and the vitamins Novophane.

Luxell934 · 19/07/2023 17:52

It would be normal for me.

bridgetreilly · 19/07/2023 18:13

Completely normal.

Hairs a day is a falacy op.

Depending on growth rate and natural cycle rate will depend how much someone sheds.

Also add in the heat we've had as the body naturally sheds to cool down

Also allow for any hormone changes, like contraception or for upto two years after having a baby the hair can shed a lot more due to hormones.

It could be breakage depending on your brush and or if you have hi lift colour etc etc.

Is go to your docs, could be thyroid issues, best to get checked
