Travelling down to Manchester at the start of August. We’ve been before so have done stuff like the Imperial War and Science museum. Was just wondering if there were any hidden gems or ideas for something that we could do for 16 and 11 year olds? Trying to keep costs low jut happy to hear of any ideas (please),

The Football Museum. A wander round Afflecks Palace. Tea and cake in the Northern Quarter cafes. The new park at Mayfield. Heaton Park on the tram.

StandardLampski · 14/07/2023 21:11

Was going tk say Afflecks Palace but possibly not low budget!

Frolie · 14/07/2023 21:28

Freight Island, near Piccadilly, followed by the Northern Quarter and Afflecks Palace.

Manchester Art Gallery - free and some interesting exhibitions.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/07/2023 21:31

There's a video games arcade in Bury, which is simple to get to on the tram. Can't remember the name but Google it. Such a laugh.

CheshireDing · 14/07/2023 21:35

Manchester Museum, Oxford Road is fab.

Plus Manchester Art Gallery as Frolie said

Are you staying in the city centre ?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/07/2023 21:36

Also the Yayoi Kusama exhibition looks great and very instagramable, but I've not been. Ice cream at Lazy Sundae.

FannyFifer · 14/07/2023 21:38

The indoor ski place chill factore is good fun.
Also iFly indoor sky diving is great.

I think it’s called Arcade Club, we’ve been it’s great :)

Boat trip from town up to MediaCity in Salford, there’s a I’m a celeb activity thing at the Lowry there, but not sure how much tickets are.

Junk yard golf on First St.

Castlefield viaduct - free, not massive but worth a visit.

People’s History Museum (free), John Rylands library (free).

Piratesue · 14/07/2023 21:46

I'm a celeb not there anymore which is a shame. The Yayoi Kusama is on my list for August.
Urban playground in arndale has a great crazy golf and the cube.
Flight club

Oh has it gone already? That didn’t seem to last long!

Mancunian here. Afflecks Palace definitely! Not over priced, plus quirky and something for everyone! Then youve got Northern Quarter behind with nice food places ,
Yard & Coop is very reasonable price wise .
What are your kiddos into OP? Im pretty sure they do Bus Tours around famous landmarks like Old Trafford, Oasis haunts that kind of thing. Or you have the footy stadium tours etc.

If you go on Manchester City Council website, there will be loads of free stuff going on in school hols.
There are some lovely Parks not far from Manny , heaton park etc which might have stuff on in school hols.

Failing all this, you can always come to mine for a chip buttie and a brew🤣. Might even throw you a Manchester tart in for pudding .

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 14/07/2023 23:14

Arcade Club is great and reasonably priced, Bury has a good market as well, and the East Lancs railway if you're a bit of a geek like me, and you could do tree top nets at Heaton park on the way to/from if you wanted though that's a bit more spends.

Gotmygladragson · 15/07/2023 07:11

@mommatoone 🤣🤣 That sounds like a highlight! Thanks for all the ideas, everyone… Love the idea of the arcade place in particular. We’re staying in Salford quays so the boat thing sounds fab too.
