To think I might be being tracked?

Anyone know anything about air tags? Just had some strange messages come up on my phone and now the AirTag doesn't exist on my 'find my' app.

Hoping someone in the know can put my mind at rest.....

Could it be that there was an AirTag in someone else’s car near yours? Now you’ve driven off it’s not in range any more?

Yes exactly this. If it's gone then you're not near it anymore.

We have one in our car.
It is registered to my husband, if we travel together I do not get notified as it assumes it’s an ‘authorised’ event (e.g he could have had it in his wallet in case of theft so it makes sense it would travel with him) but if I’m alone I will get one of these alerts.
they rely on piggy backing on to other people’s signal from their phones (Bluetooth I think?) to determine their locations, so if someone put one in their luggage to track it through the airport for example no one on that plane would get an alert about it travelling with them as the owner is also on board. If the suitcase was put on the wrong flight then all iPhone users would be alerted as it would be unable to connect to the owners phone if that makes sense?

What I’m saying is it shouldn’t falsely alert you if you were with someone who owned one.
I would imagine it’s in your belongings or on your car and I would try and find it. Once you find it (if there is one) twist the white disk off the silver one to remove the battery.

I was literally going to post this almost word for word as DPs air tag is left in my car as we parked it overnight in a dodgy area of town last week and I forgot to take it out.

As I drive away from anywhere it makes a sound that I can hear and I get a notification.
