Exceptionally trivial - judge this eating-in-public etiquette

On a crowded train, an adult man just gave the foil lid of his yoghurt a thorough, noisy licking.

AIBU or is this something only acceptable in the confines of your home?

What public eating misdemeanours make you judge?

I can't say I would even notice this. Why not lick it? It's only yogurt and a shame to waste it.

You can lick ice creams or lollipops without question so I don't see the difference really.

I'm probably just pretty uncouth.

Readyplayerthr33 · 14/07/2023 18:24

Look up the comedian Alun Cochrane talking about a man eating a peach on a train. You’ll enjoy that.

SarahAndQuack · 14/07/2023 18:25

I think I'd judge someone making that noise with a nice cream too! 😄

Ah live a little. Lick that lid, slurp your drink. Could die tomorrow, let the man enjoy himself.

Wilkolampshade · 14/07/2023 18:29

Hot Maccy's on a bus on a rainy day. Seems to smell worse when the air is damp.

Meeting · 14/07/2023 19:03

Couldn't get worked up about that.

I hate when people don't teach their kids table manners though. Like when you see an older child (maybe 10/11) stabbing food onto their fork like a lollipop and biting off chunks.

Ugh. I never noticed it smelling worse on a damp day, but YY, smelly food in confined spaces is nasty!

I have seen adults do this.

do not ever do this in public
Quite revolting.

Nope.
He can enjoy himself in the privacy of his own home. With the blinds down. Thank you.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/07/2023 19:45

Meh. You have to lick the lid of life Grin

On a purely practical note, what do you do with a yoghurty lid on a train. You can't really put it down without it risking getting yogurt everywhere, falling in your lap or something. Could stick it to the window I suppose...

Or you can lick it, then fold it up.

Maireas · 14/07/2023 19:46

Here's my solution: don't eat yoghurt on a train

Surely you stick it in the bin just like the yoghurt pot? Or do you advocate tonguing your way around that too?

I'd lick a yogurt lid on a train although I wouldn't want to catch anyone's eye while I was doing it. I don't know what else I'm supposed to do with it though! I can't put old yogurt away.

It wouldn't be my first choice as a train snack though.

Dontlistitonfacebook · 14/07/2023 19:48

It is not acceptable anywhere (my DH does not know this. I try not to look but I know it is happening).

Maireas · 14/07/2023 19:50

There should be a special punishment for this. Some kind of community service. Possibly involving cleaning mess off station platforms or pigeon droppings from statues. Although I would favour a public flogging, but I know some on here may disagree.

I took one on a flight. We had saver menu chasers too 🐷 No shame

Oh dear. Oh dear.
See the punishment suggestions above.

You need to run for high public office, and put all of this into action.

I think outside of the home and designated restaurant spaces, eating and drinking should be banned.
Perhaps sipping water or sucking a boiled sweet, on a long journey, but that is all.

No such thing as a hot Maccy’s. That’s why I take them home and shove them in the oven for 5mins before eating. Lush.

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 14/07/2023 19:56

Noisy eating of any sort is totally unnecessary.

Who has time for that?! I want it there and then!! Not have to pre heat the oven!

Karrpt · 14/07/2023 19:58

You put your maccies in the oven? Wtf

Just ask them a strange question that requires knowledge to answer and ask pointedly and loudly for a receipt. Makes them think you're a mystery shopper and they cook it fresh 🙌

Tipping the last crumbs from the crisp bag down your throat through your wide open jaws, head tipped back, is not acceptable in public. In private...
