Do I need an X-ray? Week old foot injury

So I fell down some steps 9 days ago. I rolled over my ankle and foot. Very painful. I was in the middle of an event with hundreds of people so I got up and carried on after a few minutes. Was wearing sturdy trainers. Later there was a small amount of swelling on my foot but no bruising, still painful.

9 days later, I still have pain in my foot when it is in certain positions and my ankle is stiff. I have been walking (and occasionally running) on my foot since the injury.

Could I have done some lasting damage?
If I had broken bones would I have had swelling/bruising?
Should I get an X-ray?
Is there even any treatment if something was broken or would it just be a case of let it heal?

Yes - YABU to take a trip to A&E on a Friday for a week old injury

No - YANBU - there may be lasting damage

It’s worth seeing a physio at least - our GP surgery has direct-access physio, you just call and ask to see her. Soft tissue injuries on someone active like you are well worth getting fixed properly so you don’t have problems in the future.

Alternatively try a minor injuries clinic if you have one.

I did something similar and went to the walk in centre, they said I didn't need an x ray and it was soft tissue damage. Bloody painful for a couple of weeks though and I still get twinges now a few months later.

Do you have a walk in centre nearby? Probably better than a&e especially if you have one that can do x rays just in case.

Thanks both. I do have a walk in centre but it doesn't have an X-ray. If it's likely to be soft tissue damage I think I would rather treat it myself at home. My concern is that if something had fractured it could heal wrong? I suppose I would know if I'd broken something though right?
