To think its selfish as fuck to smoke weed underneath a child's bedroom window constantly?

Our neighbours are constantly in their garden smoking weed. Literally every half hour basically they are out there with another joint.

I don't care that people smoke weed, hell I've smoked the odd bit in the past and I get the appeal occasionally.

But the thing that really fucks me off is that my sons room is right above where they smoke it in their garden. He can't even have his window open in the summer because the smell is awful. The whole house stinks but the smell in his room is just terrible. Neighbours know this and know its his room directly above where they are smoking it.

Aibu to think you're a selfish twat to choose to smoke weed directly below a child's bedroom so much so they have to close their window every time you do it (and even that doesn't fully stop it) rather than just going to the end of your garden or better yet, stinking out your own house with it inside.

It's a foul stench. I can't stand it anywhere.

Cherrysoup · 12/07/2023 22:40

You’re not wrong. Have you asked them to stand elsewhere?

Beenhereforever1978 · 12/07/2023 22:45

It's a fucking awful smell and it gets into everything!

I'd possibly mention this to school (if he's that age). Showing up with uniform stinking of weed isn't a strong look...

Are you owned or rented?

Maray1967 · 12/07/2023 22:47

i would tell them they needed to stop smoking under the window.
If they ignored me, I’d get the hosepipe out and it would be spraying over the fence. DH would be telling me to stop but I’d bloody well do it.
But I can get very angry at times and it probably wouldn’t be the smartest move. Still, it would interesting to see how the police handled it if they called them.

Weal · 12/07/2023 22:48

That’s so inconsiderate!!!
you say they know it smells in your child’s room, is that because you’ve told them and they refuse to smoke elsewhere?

BruceAndNosh · 12/07/2023 22:50

Garden hose.

JudgeRudy · 12/07/2023 23:20

I think it's selfish to smoke weed under anyone's window, child or not. I also think it's selfish to stand outside a pub (often in a pack) on the pavement by the door and smoke (or vape) meaning patrons and pavement users have to walk through a putrid smoke cloud.
It's not nice but their rights trump yours. Sometimes it's better to be happy than right. By a cheap 2nd hand gazebo and see if they'll use that rather than presumably hovering by the back door

dearJayne · 12/07/2023 23:30

Can you not ask them to smoke it further down the garden?

AndTheSurveySays · 12/07/2023 23:37

Your whole house stinks from them smoking in the open air? I find that quite impossible. Perhaps they're growing a crop.

Toohotforchips · 12/07/2023 23:45

Hasn't a strain of weed been genetically engineered BY NOW that doesn't smell? Mental health concerns aside, I wouldn't mind it so much then.

But yes, it's selfish in the circumstances you described.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 12/07/2023 23:54

Incredibly selfish of them. I don’t want to breathe it in as an adult - far too mindful of my mental health. But I’d be apoplectic if my small child was subjected to it.

You need to ask them to smoke it away from the windows. Approach it in a bright but firm manner, with the assumption they’ll be happy to say yes and hopefully they’ll go along with your request.

There are people near me that smoke it and their garden is across a field so a long way from our house. We can still smell it!

Superpinkflowerpower · 13/07/2023 00:01

Report it to 101 or the local community support officer, alternatively report it to environmental unit at council.

And before I get the usual MN Quotes about the police wont do any thing and don't be a grass, bollocks! they are acting antisocial and it stinks.

I did it to my ex neighbour, that shit got a visit from the police and a warning. then moved out later on, good riddance stinky habit.

Mumtothreegirlies · 13/07/2023 00:08

Yanbu it’s a horrid smell and they’re rude AF for doing it.
i would just tell the police as despite the recent lax attitude to it, it’s actually still illegal.
they might get a warning especially if you exaggerate and then they might smoke it inside in future.
I don’t have an issue with people smoking it (don’t understand why they want to feel groggy all the time) but as it stinks so bad the least they can do is smoke it in private.

Weed stinks. I can smell it from 200ft away. I think just like cigarette smokers, pot smokers are immune to the stench.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 13/07/2023 00:11

Have you spoken to them about it? What happened if so? If not why not?

Calliecaterpillar · 13/07/2023 03:45

Yeah smoking it underneath a child's bedroom is selfish, lots of people are unaware that they are being selfish until it's pointed out- you never know they could be extremely apologetic and make a conscious effort to find a place that isn't affecting their neighbours to smoke or use other methods like edibles if you ask them without coming over too confrontational

Or they might just be selfish fuckers who won't care and you'll need to get harder to stop it but might be worth a shot

FindingMeno · 13/07/2023 03:50

I can't stand the smell.
I'd talk to them really nicely and make sure they know I don't care what they do and its none of my business, but would they mind doing it in a different place.

LlynTegid · 13/07/2023 06:50

You should care about illegal drugs. Assuming you do not want another family to have the anguish that those of Olivia Pratt-Korbel are facing.

User478 · 13/07/2023 07:03

Get your son a lovely window box, water it very regularly.

MrsElsa · 13/07/2023 07:14

Report it every time.

And move house for the sake of your child.

MrsElsa · 13/07/2023 07:16

Weed is still illegal by the way, a few people seem confused on this thread 🤨

This.

The OP saying it’s selfish and that they know it’s her child’s window suggests she hasn’t addressed it directly with them.

I always wonder this. I remember on a thread ages ago a poster in California saying that a lot of places just smell of it now, which was really disappointing as I was under the impression that it was the strong stuff that stinks and so legal varieties wouldn’t be so bad. This poster didn’t have a problem with the smell either, so no reason to disbelieve them.

Dreading it being legalised as it will only get worse then.

cuckyplunt · 13/07/2023 07:28

There’s a difference between smelling something and having it stick to your textiles etc so that you smell too.
