Can someone make me feel better about the weather this weekend?

I'm taking DH away for a surprise birthday weekend and I've booked this really cute cabin in the countryside with outdoor bath, pizza oven, all cooking to be done on a firepit outside etc and now the weather is saying basically rain most of the weekend.

I know this isn't really for AIBU but I'm just gutted as it's cost me a fair bit of money so it's his only birthday present and I had pictured us having lovely dinners cooked on the firepit, sitting round it drinking wine in the sun and now I have no idea what we will do! The cabins are very cute inside but small so wouldn't really want to spend all night there.

I've booked some pubs for lunch but just feeling really down we won't really get to enjoy the outdoor experience properly or even use the outdoor bath if it's pissing down. Bloody UK!

Thinking we'll just have to cook under an umbrella but don't want to buy all the food to take if it will just be ruined. What do you think?

Could you ask the owners if they have a gazebo (can't be the first time they'd need one) or get one and take it yourself, that way the odd shower won't spoil your evening.

Fire and bath sound far too hot in the sun anyway OP, I think the rain will be cosy. All the more reason to light a fire and snuggle up. Plus when it rains at the moment it's normally showers with sunny bits in between. I doubt it will be pouring all weekend. Sending lots of good weather karma your way though!

You can use a hot tub in the rain! I prefer using ours when the weather isn’t great.
Also, I imagine there will be periods where it’s not raining. We’ve just had an absolute downpour for about 45 mins but it’s now forecast to be sunny for the rest of the evening. I’m sure it won’t be raining the entire time.

Could you take a large umbrella and stand from your garden so you can at least sit under it with the fire pit on. Perhaps go out for lunch to a local pub and then enjoy a picky board/cheese board and some nice drinks in the evening so not cooking needed. You could toast some marshmallows on the fire pit if the weather allows. Are there any local spas you could go to for a few hours to use the hot tub? Usually not too expensive to just access the facilities without food/treatments. Download some movies onto a computer and take it with you incase no wifi.

Thanks everyone - I like the idea of taking some sort of big umbrella/gazebo - I've just emailed the hosts to see if they have any suggestions or anything we can use if it rains too!

Will definitely download movies as there's no WiFi.

I would quite like the idea of it raining for an hour here or there as it will be veey cosy but at the moment it's looking pretty consistent, but I will keep my fingers crossed it will stop!

I've never used a hot tub, but I went to an outdoor spa when it was cold and raining, and it was lovely and snug, having a cold damp head doesn't matter when your body is warm!

feghs111 · 11/07/2023 16:45

Thanks - it's not a hot tub, it's an actual bath, but you're right we can still go in it even if it's raining!

Weather forecasts can be negative, as the forecasters don't want a repeat of 1987 and not predicting the hurricane. May end up with less rain or none.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2023 16:50

We'll you'll be wet anyway in a bath, doesn't matter if it's raining!

BeefyBen · 11/07/2023 16:53

hope it rains lol

Don't panic @feghs111!

I work with weather data - weather forecast has to look at the worst case scenario now, because we missed the big storms that caused all the flooding in the N of England in December 2015, when the forecast was most likely scenario. Also - there's so many variables in weather forecasting, that what it looks like on Tuesday, could be very different to what it looks like on Friday. That's what I am telling myself before I go off on scout camp...

Well how was it then OP?

calmcoco · 21/07/2023 10:26

Bloody climate change is shit, we are going to have more stupidly hot periods and more depressing rain.

You are allowed to be disappointed, it sounds like you have done the right things by booking some nice lunches.

calmcoco · 21/07/2023 10:27

Oh, they have already been Grin
I'm an idiot.

feghs111 · 21/07/2023 10:29

We had a lovely time thank you! and the weather was better than forecasted. It did rain and quite heavily a times but we had periods of sunshine too and managed to do all the outdoor cooking etc
