To be upset about my cousins’ old comments about my weight?

Over the weekend my mum suggested we watch some old camcorder videos of family holidays so we sat down as a family with my grandparents and watched some memories from our Cornwall holiday in late August/early September 2013 which we went with my aunt, uncle, cousins and grandparents.

I was really enjoying the nostalgia until I heard my cousins laughing about my weight in the background of the recording. Saying I ‘look like a whale’ and ‘as big as a bus’. I was so embarrassed! No one said anything but the room went silent and awkward. I was very big back then and have since lost a lot of weight but still a bit chubby.

I’m really offended that they made fun of me because I’m very close to my cousins and I have never had any problems with them at all. I know back in 2013 there wasn’t as much body positivity as now but I still feel they should have known better not to make nasty comments about other’s bodies!

Am I being a wet lettuce considering it was so long ago or am I valid for finding it offensive?

YANBU. I would find that backstabbing and humiliating.

Ah yanbu, I'd be sad but I'd say the room watching it together and falling quiet ten years on is probably enough that they know they were horrible. I hope you're okay, did any of them apologise or bring it up?

Forget the body positivity movement, comments like that have always been rude and insulting, I'm sorry op.

YANBU and tbh I would be calling them out now
