Currently got two poorly DC (4 and 5), ones in my bed and DH is in the other room with the other so we can keep an eye on them both. Neighbours behind have started having a party and are playing blaring music, have now decided to bring a karaoke machine outside so all we can hear is screeching from about 30 people. Kids are crying that they can't sleep. We live on a new estate that's quite compact with houses. Honestly who has such little consideration that they think this is acceptable behaviour??

Half and hour and you can call the police for noise complaint. In the mean time maybe just try having a word? Ask if maybe they could do it indoors and explain you have sick children

So they no your kids are sick?

The police will not do anything. It’s a council issue. You can record the noise on the noise app and submit it to the council, but obviously that won’t help you now.

@TeaKitten no of course they don't but would you expect anybody to have such a loud party on a (mainly family) estate. I understand a little music etc but to hear such a large group of people screaming on a karaoke machine at this time of night is surely unacceptable.

If they're not doing it often then I think up to midnight, noise like this is acceptable.

I will say though that I HATE loud parties and wouldn't like it at the best of times (let alone when my kids were ill) but I don't think they're unreasonable if it's just the odd time.

TeaKitten · 07/07/2023 22:36

It’s not ‘of course’, how would I no if you chat to your neighbours or not?! Do they do this a lot or is it a one off?

pyjamasallday22 · 07/07/2023 22:36

Yeah they are selfish arseholes. Totally unacceptable in a very residential area. Noise complaints are notoriously difficult to do much about at the time however. I guess just keep a log of it in case it becomes a regular occurrence. Sorry for your poor kids, I'd be so cross if mine were sick and couldn't sleep because of something like this.
