I am in my late thirties, so obviously don't know what it was like before. It seems to me that porn culture is definitely getting worse, with a lot of casually demeaning women and outright violence.
I don't watch porn now but did in my twenties with my ex boyfriends, before I fully realised the ethical concerns and how problematic is was. So I'm sure I'm out of date in a lot of ways, but seemed to be trending that way then, and over the last few years I've read articles that seem to say similar about the most searched for terms on Porn Hub containing a lot of casually violent or degrading acts that 15 years ago would have been categorised as BDSM and not mainstream.
Was it always like this and I'm just a bit dense? Like were porn films from the 70's and 80's and 90's all just as bad - but it was more secretive and underground?
Or if it getting worse, why?
It's clearly a lot more available to a lot more men and boys now than a few decades ago, which I'm sure is part of the problem.
Because there is so much, is there a kind of competition to make more and more extreme content to attract views and clicks?
