To mention issues with a product to the supplier

Had a sleepover last night for DD's birthday. I hired some of those teepees that companies lend out for this type of thing. I found a cheaper version (£30 per teepee - other companies were charging around £50) which I had to set up myself after delivery.

There were some issues with the setup:
-foam matresses stated on website, but inflatable beds delivered (did not realise discrepancy until after they left)

  • teepee frames were falling apart - nearly every one collapsed several times when building but stayed up during the night. Need repairing.
  • tray tables in website pictures, but when delivered it turns out the legs had all fallen off so they were basically just trays.

AIBU to mention this when they collect? I have already paid so not looking for a cheeky discount. DH thinks I shouldn't say anything, but just never use the company again. I would not use them again anyway, but like to give people a chance to put it right for the next customer.

Definitely tell them you are not happy. They should give you a partial refund.

Igmum · 02/07/2023 07:23

Yes, tell them

shinepud · 02/07/2023 07:27

Considering it was the budget option, I'd say just take it as lesson learnt. I wouldn't ask for a refund – just think of your £20 saved as payment for the shabby bits. I might do a Google review or feedback to the company if I could be bothered.

Tell them

Budget should still be good quality through and fit for purpose @shinepud

I suppose but my experience in dealing with budget companies with crap products is that they don't really care.

In those circumstances getting a refund would be an uphill battle requiring me to be far more antagonistic and threatening than I would like. So I usually just take it as lesson learnt, you get what you pay for. I might totally be wrong on this occasion though.

And the other companies were setting everything up for people - so I thought it was a lower price to reflect that I would be spending an hour setting up and an hour packing up.

I wouldn’t be happy with this I would advise them that they need to inform people much better that it’s self set up they are inflatable beds they are infact trays they really need to do a complete overhaul on there ad!

im a bit don’t mince my words tbh and can’t keep my mouth shut in these situations so I would of told them it was unacceptable immediately once they attempted to drop off. I would of made them feel a bit silly by pointing everything out on the spot I.e what I’m setting up? Where are the mini tables? The inflatable beds I would of let slide tbh but what if they now become volatile and start accusations that you’ve infact damaged them?

And if my mouth didn’t say it once set up my face would of done the job yanbu! But you need to raise this sooner rather than later as it’s a bit silly to raise it after the fact now as you’ve had them all night! So yabu there.

Quinoawoman · 02/07/2023 08:04

@Babsexxx I did know it was self setup and was fine with that. Most of the issues were not apparent on delivery - i.e. I assumed that the tray table legs were folded under, the teepee frames looked to be in one piece and I was only slightly suspicious of the inflatable beds - wasn't until I checked back on the website later that I realised it said foam matresses. Not really an issue per se as the girls didn't mind, but I just think they needs to provide what they say they provide.

The trouble is now op is you have left it untill the next day (after the fact) so I would advise you to do what oh says just don’t use them again lesson learnt here.

We bought our kids a bouncy castle and rented it out my mums friend absolutely begged for it one weekend but it was going from one house straight to hers without me doing a inspection of weather or not it needed cleaning etc any repair works I rented it to her heavily discounted £50 for two days and when it came around to paying up after she had it for the two days she refused as apparently she wasted a hour cleaning it down with a hose!

I was absolutely infuriated she should of said it’s come I’m not happy and we would of collected it straight away but you need to absolutely complain about these things on the spot I’m afraid.

lesson learnt here.

Quinoawoman · 02/07/2023 08:23

@Babsexxx but as I've already said, I am not looking for a discout. I just think they need to know the issues so they can fix up before the next customer refuses to pay or kicks off majorly. To me, feedback is important as it helps people improve - it's not always about getting something out of it.

True I would of contacted them last night though so they could of sort a resolution immediately, as it might come across that you are doing it for some sort of gain unfortunately.
