AIBU (or stupid) to be travelling to Paris?

It's all booked and paid for. Campervan is packed and we've been looking forward to going for ages. Taking the ferry and driving to a campsite in Paris for a week and then heading on through Loire and then up the coast from Bordeaux back to the ferry again. Trip is planned for most of July before we had back home again.

The news about all the rioting looks awful.

Are we stupid to go? Is it as bad as it looks?

The campsite is in Maisons Laffitte

I'd give it a miss tbh, can you cancel the Paris site and go somewhere else.

It's
Not so much that I would be worried about the rioting but the upheaval it willl be causing.

Check on the Gov UK website for advice of British Nationals travelling to France

The advice has been updated today. TBH I would avoid and book some sites in the UK instead. Not worth the stress.

My friends Daughter is currently in Paris on a school trip and it’s fine. She’s been to Disney today!

SoupAndToast · 01/07/2023 20:39

I would avoid it.

I was in Paris when the last pension riots happened, it was horrible and quite scary. I would avoid if possible

Smashingwatermelons · 01/07/2023 20:46

Personally I think I’d go - but I would avoid going into Paris until things have calmed down. Maybe even cut the Paris stay short and find another place to stay a bit more rural . Very likely you won’t notice any unrest when avoiding paris/Lyon/Marseille.
Sounds like a fab trip!

And the FCO isn’t telling people not to go- just to avoid certain things/areas.

I love Paris but would hesitate about going tomorrow.

And unless you sleep like logs I'd never ever go back to Masons Lafitte - it's right next to the mainline traineline that runs all night and under the flight path for CDG. We were there last year and I didn't sleep for a week.

The govt says: you should monitor the media, avoid areas where riots are taking place

I would not be keen to go to Paris right now, no.

ssd · 01/07/2023 21:09

Such stupid advice really. As if you'd know where riots are taking place when you've just flown in from somewhere.

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 01/07/2023 21:12

There's nothing to loot in a campsite, you'll be fine
