Recently my daughter was whinging and crying on the school run, when a school mum swept into to appease my child, she ended up offering to hold her my DD's hand on the walk to school... excuse me but she's my child and she was whinging because I was giving her a safety talk about cars coming out of drives etc and how she mustn't run etc. anyway this parent really fucked me off, and ruined my usually lovely walk to school with my DD.

AIBU to find it annoying when another person steps in and take over your parenting?

I know they're trying to be nice but I'm the parent and I'll comfort them/sort the situation out, the most helpful thing someone else can do is give us space/fuck off.

I'd just be like 'oh it's alright I've got this' if they started interfering and trying to take her hand. It is annoying but probably well meant

Oh I have a neighbour who does this but she's a special needs teacher and I leave her to help as she's great with one of mine who can be a cantankerous wee shite at times 😂

I did. And she still persevered. It was so frustrating. Her DC was on a bike too so I also said "don't let us keep you, you go ahead", all fell on deaf ears.

I think this situation would have benefited from something more direct. 'Let got of her hand, thanks'.

MsChatterbox · 01/07/2023 07:11

Yes very annoying! I think you need to be more firm next time, take your daughter back!

Ollifer · 01/07/2023 07:30

Yeah if you said that and she kept going I'd be pissed off and be more firm. I'd never do that to another parent unless they wanted my help

Solsticesummer · 01/07/2023 07:34

Very inappropriate and interfering! Avoid her in future at all costs!

I am happy for them to help, I dont get this territorial thing with children like 'I own them', I don't expect people to help but if they do great
