To want to change consultant?

My relative recently had a really awful/strange experience with their doctor. We are wondering what to do for the best going forward.
My relative recently went for a consultation and she was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully it should be treatable.
When the consultant told her she had cancer, she started laughing at her. Then proceeded to make flippant comments/jokes about metastatic spread ect and again laughing after each joke.
My relative just sat in silence and didn’t say anything as she was in shock.
We are so upset for her and angry at the consultant for treating her this way. She doesn't want to go back to this consultant as she doesn’t really trust her anymore and she would be operating on her. But she also doesn’t want to delay treatment by switching to someone else.
Was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions on the best way forward please.

That’s absolutely disgusting and such an odd way for a consultant to behave at such a distressing time.

I had a consultant who really upset me when I was pregnant- I was having major problems with the pregnancy and he was so horrible the way he spoke to me. He kept just making me even more worried than I already was so DH spoke to someone in the hospital- I can’t remember who it was but he explained what had happened and the very next day I saw a different one and he took over my care for the rest of the pregnancy.

I would not stay with someone who behaved like that after telling someone they had cancer. I hope your relative is as ok as she can be under the circumstances and that the cancer is treatable.

I'd put a complaint in to PALS.

Its difficult re changing consultants as unsure if this will result in any delays. I'd potentially speak to PALS about that too...they could point you in the right direction anyway.

Hope all goes well with the treatment.

Your poor relative, that is so inhumane, its beyond sick. Complain to PALS.

Contact PALS, they will investigate and advise you what you can do.
