To sleep in my son's bed every night?

DS is 4. He's gets scared easily and used to often wake up with nightmares. He has a double bed.

I started sleeping in his room as he wanted me to. But he's not that bothered for last couple of months. But I sleep in there anyway.

I just prefer it. My DH snores and mumbles and hogs the bed. And he can be a bit gross.

I pretend I go in with my son every night because he's got up and asked me to go in his room but actually I go in there of my own accord

Is this a bad idea? I don't want to undermine my relationship with my DH but I sleep so much better next to my son

I don’t think yabu but I did this and dh did find it unreasonable. I ignored him.

Sounds absolutely fine to me!

If everyone sleeps well wherever they are that's fine.
Long term you'll end up getting kicked out and it might be tough to go back to DH's bed habits then.
DS might get so used to a companion he then struggles without, so I suppose that's a possible down side

I think it's two separate issues.
You don't want to share with your DH. Discuss that properly like an adult with him and sort out a separate bedroom for yourself. Don't use your DS as a reason. Just be honest. He's your husband after all.
Secondly, I think sharing with your son as he gets older isn't fair on him.
So in conclusion, you need your own room!

I think sleeping with your son is fine. But the reasons here might be problematic because they won’t resolve on their own. I’m guessing you don’t have another bedroom so I think you have to resolve this with your DH. Start with a conversation.

If everyone is happy and sleeping then who cares? But go one further and get your own bed and just be honest with your husband. I don't think sleeping in the same bed matters a huge amount tbh. I always sleep better separately, we have different bedtimes, different routines, we always want different temperatures, he sometimes snores ... Sleep is paramount in our house so we do whatever gets everyone the most of it.

A super king helps - on the odd occasion we stay somewhere with a double it's horrendous! But there's a lot to be said for sleeping separately if everyone is well rested as a result.

I think it's fine. He's only 4 so a baby and he's scared.. I would do the same thing. He'll probably grow out of it in time.

Sounds fine to me.

It sounds like you have the ick as far as your husband is concerned and that’s the real problem. Because your DS will only tolerate you sleeping with him for so long.

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 28/06/2023 23:47

If your son needed you, that would be fine but you are doing it for your benefit not your son's and that is going to cause you more problems in the long run.

I've slept in my sons bed all week and him in mine as dont want to sleep next to oh and listen to him snoring and trumping all night! Sleep so much better in here...

This is a lovely read. I have the opposite experience. Most mornings I wake up looking at the sleeping face of my beautiful 6 year old who stealthily arrives at some point after midnight usually without waking us. I love to see them. Sometimes, as they're waking, they snuggle me like a koala. This won't last for much longer. I'm cherishing it.
